How much impact I really have on students.

It seems that the students in the hallways, classroom or any where else on campus are influenced by my performance, my attitude, and professionalism. I seem to go through life thinking about my own daily issues and sometimes forget about the needs of the students. They are under alot of stress trying to learn the material we have to deliver and sustain their family and personal needs as well. It makes me feel good to be a sounding board for them and sometimes guide their thinking prosses to show value in what they are dooing. Teaching and mentoring go beyond the job. Our mission statement of changing one life at a time now means a lot more to me now.

I have seen that students who have perfect attendance do not drop out. Those students that miss time and get behind the rest of the class tend to drop out more often.

comfort

remember we were nervous the first week, make them feel at home

don't blame the parents !!

school's success is not always determined by the instructors themselve or the methods they use but often how the students interact and deliver what they've learned. the same way retention success is not always determined by the instructor and his practices but by how well the students really understand the consequences of noncompliance. in short communication should be your best tool

Accelerated learning environments and retention

The university for which I teach offers all of its programs online in a highly-accelerated format--we complete 3 and 4-credit courses in 5-1/2 rather than 12-15 weeks.  While retention is improving (thanks to instructors and student advisors), the dropout rate and number of 'ghosts' are still too high.  I'd love to learn about others' experiences with accelerated learning and retention, whether online or in the classroom.

Goals and vision

How can an admissions rep, program director's attitude change a student's vision and goals?

Comfortable Environment

I try to make the learning environment stress free. All work by students gets done, but we listen to the radio, and enjoy our work. Sharing humerous stories I have seen in the industry help keep lectures interesting. Scott H.

retention

it take along time to be good enough to work with students to find out what is causing their problem(s),and come with a solution. always seek help if cannot solve the problem, others may have a solution.
