Stimulating student senses

During orientation the students will be watching very closely all of their sorroundings, exploring all corners, classrooms and labs. We should conduct cooking demos, create competitions, raffles, team building activities. Give them a small taste on what to expect when they start school.

Meet the instuctors day

I believe if we meet new students and let them know what got us interested in the field we instruct then, we ask the students what got them involved in the career which their going to school for it'll help break the ice and let the new students know how we started out. It will make them feel more comfortable.

Retention

I've always believed that holding students accountable and not making things easy is the best way. They do know when they are being cheated and seem to appreciate it when challenged, as well as supported and shown that it can be done.

retention

Retention is more important than we sometimes realize. In the fact that It effects us in the past, present and future.

Student Retention

At my school as part of the admission process we have integrated a per-intake interview for the incoming student. The students get one-on-one attention, they get to meet and talk with the instructors and support staff, it also give the student the opportunity to asked any pending questions, or seek clarification prior to the start of the program. Each interview last 15-20 minutes, mentorships are formed and our faculty get to formalate plans for academic success based on predetermined questions asked of the student, with the process we have seen an increase in enrollments, retention and overall student satisfaction. This course is very informative, it has given me good ideas that will also be integrated into the programs.

relate stress

We have been at the stress point before , we can help students with this.

retention works

I like that we have these updates to help the students.

when all signs point to no...

When a checklist or self-check results in a "no": What type of advise can I offer to our admissions representatives for working with a prospective students who are obviously ill-suited to the program, yet seem insistent upon enrolling? Aside from telling a student they are not a good fit for the program, how can admissions representatives respectfully urge students to reconsider pursuing enrollment? What are some good tools or assignments admissions representatives could possibly send a prospective student home with before making their decision? Thanks for the input!

retention

retention is very important to all department's.

connecting with the students

First impresions are very important. The first night of class i try to remember the students names. i have had students tell me that they were very impressed that i took the time to learn their names, they have had instructors in the past that never did know their name.

retention

you should monitor your students for any signs that may have a problem that could affect their interest in their learning

Connecting with the student.

Creating a connection with your students isn't easy. Most people need lots of time to trust another person. My job is to recognize that a student is suffering and then to try and get them to open up. A lot of students won't do that. You have got to earn their trust.

Importance of Cultural Education

Having all the instructors get past the "It is not my job" attitude is critical. If an instructor does not want to go the extra mile, one will have to evaluate why they are staying at the institution. Maybe, education is not the place they should be.

Motivation

Motivation is a vital key to student success. You need to listen, and follow-up on the students that are struggling.

Business Lives

Our business lives change every day. We need to incorporate our business lives to enhance our professional lives. There is a cross-over, that faculty, staff and instructors need to work together and be on the same path.

Retention Everyday

It is important to let the students know that you care about them, but also assure them that they need to be accountable. Yes, you do have to keep the relationship on a professional level at all times.

Student Stress

I see that "outside the classroom stress" is a bigger influence than the "classroom stress". My students want to be here, they want to do well, but it's the outside stuff, the everyday life stuff, that brings them down more than the classroom.

How much impact I really have on students.

It seems that the students in the hallways, classroom or any where else on campus are influenced by my performance, my attitude, and professionalism. I seem to go through life thinking about my own daily issues and sometimes forget about the needs of the students. They are under alot of stress trying to learn the material we have to deliver and sustain their family and personal needs as well. It makes me feel good to be a sounding board for them and sometimes guide their thinking prosses to show value in what they are dooing. Teaching and mentoring go beyond the job. Our mission statement of changing one life at a time now means a lot more to me now.
