Basically I learned that the same strategies used in the classroom setting are interchangeable in an on-line setting. The strategies used in a traditional classroom are:
- asking the right questions and analyzing the answer
- effective listening
- verbal cues
- Body language including posture, movement and gesture and eye movement
- voice tone and quality
- Communication style especially language content and emphasis on key words While these strategies help gain trust from your learning student the online community needs these as well as the following strategies that help you project your presence online:
- Initiate, lea, monitor, and manage synchronous discussion session
- oversee team projects
- participate in asynchronous discussion forms by offering your response to the discussion question and sharing with all participants a summary of their contributions
- Answer student queries and provide informative and constructive feedback in a time manner A 24-hour turn around time is generally acceptable.
Students are entitled to evidence of your qualifications and experience to provide instruction in the content domain of hte course. An effective way to project your expertise from a distace is to provide students with a short biography of yourself.
It is very important for the professor's presence to be made known to the students through different methods such as biography sharing, posting a video about myself, and letting them know about my professional license as well as credentials. This will give them the confidence that I can provide assistance to them when questions come up.
The instructor should share their biography, authority, and experience with the students as it relates to the course. Also, the instructor should develop a personal relationship with each student, knowing they have your support and can communicate with you at any time if they have a question or problem to solve.

Methods of effectively connecting with and establishing a presence and authority to students in an online learning environment
Projecting yourself in the online learning environment requires more thoughtful methods that can still come through in a virtual environment. Being engaging and interested in the students, and sharing my experience and are a couple of things that I can do to give the students the comfort to trust that I am giving them the very best education that I am capable of to make them successful in their jobs.

Building personal connections and trust in an online classroom creates a lively, engaging learning environment. Encouraging students to share biographies helps develop a sense of community, making students feel seen, valued, and more open to collaboration.
A takeaway I would like to utilize is having the students give a brief bio of themselves on an index card at the beginning of the term to include what they intend to gain from the class including grade wise.
Taking the time to get to know students through biographies will help build rapport and that even though a course may be taught online it is important to maintain a sense of authority balanced with security for student sucess
