A takeaway I would like to utilize is having the students give a brief bio of themselves on an index card at the beginning of the term to include what they intend to gain from the class including grade wise.

Being technically educated is imperative to interacting with students online.  Communication is one of the most pivotal characteristics of a successful online class.

Assess the class for limitations.  Utilizing the rubric and providing detailed feedback is vital to the learning process.

Enlist in feedback and be open to ideas and criticism from colleagues. Clear boundaries and expectations should be established up front to ensure everyone is actively participating in the learning process.
