Without clear boundaries and set expecttions from the instructor how can a student get started in and online classroom? Therefore, the rules and guidelines must be presented in the beginning of the course. Student must be highly engaged and willing to provide quality participation. It is the only vehicle they can utilize to succeed. Others students (shy personality types) will see that extrovert students whom participate form a sense of cohesive unity in the online classroom and therefore the inverts can "risk" participation as well. In the beginning the introductions are an essential part of the classroom and the instructor… >>>

Instructor have a big job to do when it comes to online learning. As I've mentioned before the "crutch" for not having visible sight of an instructor can be an impediment for visual learners and therefore it is crucial that the instructor to student (I2S) and student to instructor (S2I) and student to student (S2S) are more than willing to cooperate in the same paltfrom with a transperancy which is conductive to positive feedback from each other. Students both must have an open mind whereby their skills for communicating thought into written form as well as verbal (microphone statements) can… >>>

There's many factors that can make effective communication for student to Instructor (S2I) and student to student (S2S). Boundaries (rules) must be established in the initial steps of classroom instruction. Setting the guidelines for civility within the online community allows us to become transparent and enhances the productivity for students to grow and impact their grades positively. The students must understand that the classroom does not tolerate non-sense and can have a negative impact in the individuals grade and or course drop altogether.

Everything from synchronous to asynchronous communication are tools to help you have access to your students. Now, some of these tools are more effective channels of communication than others. In addition, to several social platforms which can be used to communicate with your students they're aware of these social media outlets like facebook, instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter now renamed X. Now these are static and the urgency to get in contact with your student is not an active (live) form of communication.

Using a telephone call is just as good to emphasize some deadlines your student may need to keep… >>>

Attrition from a student or students is usually caused by many factors but the main one is not being able to prioritize their activities and or manage events in their lives.

some attrition contributors are: alienation, excessive workload, competing responsibilities and or technical issues with equipment.

Feedback in a traditional classroom setting is easily attained by the learners expressions, nods, and or body language. This is a crutch that must be overcome in an online classroom setting as they're not readily available, if for example you're in synchronous/asynchronous platform.

Basically I learned that the same strategies used in the classroom setting are interchangeable in an on-line setting. The strategies used in a traditional classroom are:

  1. asking the right questions and analyzing the answer
  2. effective listening
  3. verbal cues
  4. Body language including posture, movement and gesture and eye movement
  5. voice tone and quality
  6. Communication style especially language content and emphasis on key words                                             While these strategies help gain trust from your learning student the online community needs these as well

I'm so glad that there is a course management system that enables students take an orientation of the courses that they will be taking now and in the future. The benefits of both students/instructors are interchangeably homogenous. Not only can an instructor monitor a learners progress for example but also a student can manage his own progress. Another example is the turnaround time to provide feedback to a student learner is both beneficial bc in a sense as an instructor if they're not getting the content or subject taught you can intervene in the process and modify attributes that make… >>>

Media Strategies & Instructional Systems Design (ISD)

Here the lesson is not lose focus on the end result and that means to deliver content that inspires students to stay engaged with the process. A clear lay out of the program should be in plain sight using many media utilities such that they building competencies are met without deterring the learner from having to remember where they left off. So equally important is the sense of self-monitoring and gauging ones understanding in an on-line setting.

The lesson here is to better have a online course set up with a time table just like the length of the course. This structure is necessary in order to bring clarity and flow for the student progress and it aids to see how far in advance you should prepare for exams and quizzes.
