I appreciated the information about assessing use of technology for enhanced course communication both in formative and summative ways, and looking at instructor-to-student, student-to-instructor, and student-to-student communication. This module gave many examples of technology tools available for various types of communication. Fortunately, I have college-aged and high school-aged children at home so they keep me apprised of the latest and greatest communication platforms. This module reminded me that it is important to set expectations of technology use for communication at the start of the course, so students are aware of how to reach the instructor when they have questions.
I was struck by the discussion that you should assess and re-assess what the most appropriste means of communicvation is. There is always that tendency to default to whatever means of communication that you (the instructor) is most comfortable with. Instructors should be prepared to use an end-of-course evaluation AND use this feedback to improve the course. If an end-of-course evaluation is requested, but the feedback is not used to improve student outcomes it is a waste of time for the instructor and students.

Being an online instructor it's very important to stay up to date with technology and know what's available in terms of communication capabilities with my students; especially the younger ones who don't like to talk on the phone and would rather text or email.
