I learned a great way to interact and gain student trust is through engagement and interaction in discussions. Additionally, providing student information on our experience and credentials can be beneficial as well.
If students are informed about you and your expertise, they will feel more protected in an unfamiliar environment such as online classes. They are hesitant if they have never done it before and they need to have assurance that you will guide them and not leave them hanging.
How important it is to post biography of yourself and engaging the students to do the same. This eases tension a student may have doing online learning.
It's important to make your lecture material relevant to real-world applications. I often recall personal experiences in my clinical career to make the course content relatable. I try to explain to students how a theoretical concept could apply to them in real life.

In e-learning making discussion pages is a vital tool to keep students engaged with each others and with their instructor too. These discussions can be material related and can be used as a feedback and evaluation means to improve the quality of the learning experience.
