It is important to first look at how you are handling the situation because the relationship between the instructor and student is two-sided. An instructor should reflect on their own approach, communication, and actions to make sure they are not contributing to the problem. By adjusting teaching methods or offering more support and attention, the situation with an unfocused student can often improve.
When dealing with challenging students, I like the seating chart rotating strategy. By brining students to the front often their behavior improves. I will apply the rules consistently and ensure that all students understand classroom procedures.
Each class will come with students that can be challenging - those who want to give up and quit, manipulators, distractors, and center stagers. To some extent, students that are acting out want or need attention from the instructor. Some students may be overwhelmed with life stresses and pressures of school, and they end up thinking they cannot follow through with their educational goals and want to quit. They need personal attention to suggest possible resources to help with their stressors and to help them feel like they are a valued part of the class. Manipulators want to bend the rules regarding assignments and deadlines. Typically they have been successful in their role as a manipulator. One way to handle this behavior is to have a very thorough and clear syllabus; review the syllabus on the first day in class, and have each student sign the syllabus. When the student requests special consideration for an assignment the syllabus can be pulled out and the policy for late work (or whatever is in question) can be reviewed with the student. Students who consistently distract from the class by talking or using their phone can sometimes be shut down by standing near them during lectures, asking them to summarize the lecture at the end of class, or by moving them to the front row. Students who always need to be center stage may need a private meeting to encourage them to let other students have a chance to respond. They can also be given a classroom job (such as recorder) or given a certain number of tickets; each time they contribute they must surrender one ticket - when they are out of tickets they are out of opportunities to chime in.
I loved the different strategies you can use for the those students that are inattentive.
I agree that the students that are acting out for attention are not actually bad students. I have some that are really a joy to have in class, just have to set clear expectations and boundaries for them. The strategies provided were very helpful.
Aprendi a identificar los diferentes tipos de estudiantes y a crear estrategias para resolver los problemas
I appreciated the strategy suggestions to deal with different types of challenging students in the classroom. My personal favorites were minute papers for inattentive students and assigning the observer role to those who want to take center stage.
In this chapter, I learned to dealing with challenging students can be challenging, but there’s ways to use it to your advantage not all challenging. Students are difficult students or bad students always make your syllabus clear so that you can avoid this type of students as long as you keep structure, everything else should go good always remember that you’re dealing with grown adult so you shouldn’t expect them to have this immaturity to them.
Comprendí los diferentes tipos de estudiantes que podre encontrar en mk salón, las características principales para poder identificarlos y las estrategias a tomar para lograr un espacio armonioso de aprendizaje
I learned that managing challenging students requires professionalism, clear communication, and consistent expectations. I will apply this by addressing issues early, setting boundaries, and maintaining a respectful and supportive learning environment.
Identify the issue and address it sooner than later.
leaning how to deal with problem students.
Give support to all. Though different students need different support.
I learned the different methods of dealing with the different types of behavioral issues and Plan to implement all the strategies.
I learned about minutes papers to have the students explain what they learned from the lesson that day and how it can help keep the ones that have trouble keeping focus. I also learned addressing issues early and focusing on where the behavior is coming from than giving a snap emotion. Also give all of your students same attention and not show favorites
I plan to incorporate the "use it wisely" cards in my classroom. My class is usually made up of all girl students so they tend to fight for attention. This may be a good strategy to try.
managing challenging behavior effectively hinges on proactive intervention an emotional regulation. ive learned that by prioritizing consistency over emotional reaction i can address the root causes of disruption .
It takes time to learn each student and I feel like having to do it in one semester doesn't give you time to make sure they are successful. Using different activities to keep them engaged allows them to see that they can do more than they thought.
There's always that one student and it's usually the one I like best because they actively participate, but then you can't stop them. Everyone needs an even opportunity to get attention
