Teachers need to monitor students at all time.  We should be moving around.  I liked the 20-second survey idea--stand in a place for 20 seconds, then move on.  You need to make eye contact and give each student attention - not just students who misbehave.  We also need to make sure all students feel like they "are in the club."  If you are faced with an angry student, listen, take notes, and ask them how they feel the situation can be resolved.

Students' behavior might be because they can't see a reason to learn the information.  The teacher needs to make sure they understand the relevancy and application in the student's life.

Students need to know the purpose and goal of what you are teaching.  They need to know they are part of the learning team. Teachers need to keep in mind that students want to know, "What's In It For Me?"
