Some students will have various learning disabilities, and to best help these students succeed it is helpful to know what supports have worked for them in the past. Students with learning disabilities are often of average or above-average intelligence and can thrive academically when provided with the right support. This module emphasized the importance of offering accommodations such as extended time and open communication to understand each student’s unique learning needs. As instructors, we can create inclusive learning environments by recognizing strengths, encouraging self-advocacy, and implementing proven strategies tailored to diverse learners.

"By the time you have figured out what the words are suppose to be you will have forgotten what the sentence said." This sentence was really helpful, As I had not realized that I was able to separate the words but didn't comprehend them until I read the following translation sentence. It was true that my mental energy was needed to separate the words and make sense of the sentence and comprehension didn't happen at the same time, so re-reading it would have been more helpful to me, which would have needed more time.
As a teacher/instructor AND a parent of a daughter with learning challenges, effective instruction to those with learning disabilities is a cause that's near and dear to my heart. It's imperative that instructors work WITH students to present information and materials in a way that the student can learn via the "path of least resistance". The goal is not to lessen the work requirements or lower the bar, but to even the playing field.
This module helped me understand the importance of equity, accessibility, and individualized support in the classroom. I learned that students with disabilities benefit most when instruction is inclusive, flexible, and focused on their strengths rather than just their challenges.

We may need to make certain changes to our processes, but not because the students with disabilities are less capable, only that they may need some different tools or techniques to ensure their success.
I have worked with students who have IEPs. When working with adult students, I will discuss their education history, whether they had an IEP, and what supports helped them.

People with learning disabilities are of average or above intelligence, though they may be behind in development as a result of their struggles to learn basic academic skills. Knowing this as an instructor will help me to better guide my students when they have a learning disability (for example: providing them more time for particular assignments, asking them what support has helped them in the past)
Educators of students with learning disabilities, require the right approach with knowing, and understanding the type of disability and challenges to learning.
Students with learning disabilities are just as capable as students without them when given the proper tools and resources to be successful.
