I enjoyed this lesson.  My first time teaching a class I had some disruptive students, I wish I would have thought of handing them a note.  Some good take aways from this course.

As the instructor, I should be able to apply different teaching methods in order to reach all students.  Not everyone learns the same, and I should present information in a manner that can reach all students.  I should have the students evaluate themselves to see what tools they will need to be successful in an online course.

An instructor should direct teaching to all the learning styles.  Using different methods to deliver the information will assist in targeting more than one particular type of learner.

Scaffolding is something that should be incorporated into online learning.  It enhances the content being taught by offering other referernces and/or material in a different way.  Scaffolding could also answer questions the student may have on their own with the added material.

I have learned that the authentic assessment would be the most important for me to integrate into my classes.  Authentic assessment can demonstrate the appropriate skills and knowledge needed in Nursing.  They need to know how to apply their knowledge in real world situations.  Value assessments are also important to integraet into the lessons.  Rubrics are so important in setting the standards for students to follow for their educational purposes.  Use of a rubric gives students the tools they need to know what is being asked of them so that they may apply themselves in the best way possible.

I have learned that essay type questions assist in demonstrating the students broader knowledge.  It will show if the student fully understands the content and is able to apply it appropriately.  Students attempt to memorize content, in nursing memorization does not demonstrate critical thinking and concept knowledge.  They need to learn the concepts and how to apply the to different situations or scenarios.  Essay questions could better demonstrate that.

I do like the concept of finding out what a student knows before actually going in to teach it.  I do like the muddiest point and the 1-2-3 method also.  It not only assists us as instructors to prepare how to teach content, but it also is an evaluation of our teaching methods to see if there is something that needs to be changed in our method or if our method is working in teaching the students.

I have learned that the tools used to assess the students needs to be reviewed to make sure it helps to reach the goals intended.  Student feedback is important to assess the effectiveness of the tools utilized by the instructors.

Rubrics are important to make assessing student progress effective and easier.  As with the previous modules, communication remains an important factor in online learning.

I have learned to make sure all rules and expectations are clearly stated in the syllabus.  Different generations communicate differently so different ways of delivering content should be considered in a diverse student population.  Allowing time for students to provide an answer is a good way to provoke critical thinking skills.
