I learned that creating effective assessments involves designing evaluations that accurately reflect what students know and can do. Assessments should be clear, consistent, and connected to the goals of the course. Different assessment methods allow instructors to evaluate knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities. I intend to apply this knowledge by developing assessments that include multiple approaches, such as written questions, group discussions, demonstrations, and clinical scenarios. These methods will allow students to actively participate in their learning and receive constructive feedback. My goal is to create assessments that encourage growth, confidence, and lifelong learning among my students.
There are so many different types of testing to see if the students are learning the material.
different test types allow an instructor to track student progress
I have learned the types of test, which ones are used most, and how to write them.
different formats of test questions help to showcase different levels of understanding of the content of the course.
I learned the diffrent types of testing methods
Assessments should be carefully created to truly gauge if learning has occurred.
Different test aplications, are used for different assesments
It helps knowing how to set up a test that will be effective.
Outlines the pros and cons of each question methodology so you can match them with the type of learning you need to assess.
Good testing topics to consider and apply in class.
This module covered the different types of tests used to measure students' learning - multiple choice, T-F, matching, short answer, essay, and skills testing. Each type of test has pros and cons depending on the type of information to be tested. Multiple choice tests are the most commonly used testing method. Sometimes there are testing banks available to make test construction easier and faster, but it is important that the instructor teach according to the test questions. I can apply this information to my future classroom experiences by making sure I choose the type of test appropriate for the material being tested, and verifying that the questions/answers are true and correct.
Helpful tips were given for each type of test. There was a good reminder to have another teacher look over the test.
Assessments are tools in which a students comprehension can be analyzed in various ways. Whichever, format a teacher choose should be consistent with the content covered and fair to benefit the student and the teacher.
After writing many test for my students, I found this module to be very useful. I did find it ironic that the quizzes in these modules often violate the suggestions and rules we just learned about.
Assessments should be clear, fair, and varied, avoiding trick questions while promoting critical thinking and understanding.
I learned that different tests have different uses and pros/cons.
Learned the different types of tests and the advantages/disadvantages of all.
From this module, I learned the importance of designing assessments that not only evaluate student learning but also support it throughout the process. Understanding the difference between formative and summative assessments, and how classroom assessment techniques can bridge the gap between theory and application, has been particularly valuable. I also found the focus on active learning meaningful, as it encourages students to apply concepts rather than just memorize them.
I intend to apply this by incorporating more formative assessments and interactive activities in my classroom, such as case-based questions and real-world scenarios, especially in accounting and payroll topics. This will help me continuously monitor student understanding and provide timely feedback, while also preparing them for practical, workplace-related challenges.
