I think it's extremely important to practice what we teach/preach to our students and to stay on top of evidence-based information whether how to put in an NG-tube or why we need to wear gloves in every patient's room regardless of diagnosis. It's really hard for students to take us seriously when we don't keep up to date with the skills and evidence-based practices as well as looking professional from head to toe!!
As a class leader, I will make sure to maintain professionalism inside and outside the classroom as well as model good behavior.
Being a good leader will take your students where they want to go. This will help your students grow.
Always maintain professionalism, enforce class room rules and make learning fun!
From this content, I have learned that my roles are to be a model, a manager and a motivator! I have reflected throughout the course on my personal experience with education/teachers - who I found to be effective and a model/motivator, and things I did not like as a student. I will take this into consideration when I start teaching my students, and will be sure to always stay up to date/educated myself so I can be a valuable asset and teacher to my students.
How to model professionalism to my students by being early and ready and dressing appropriately.
That an instructor is a role model and leader
"You can be a friend to a student but not a pal." Especially being a new instructor to not fall trap into trying to become a friend and to keep a professional distance from the students.
A teacher is an extremely important role model. Students are watching us and listening to what we are saying whether we think they are or not. We do need to me model and examples. As a teacher, I take this role seriously and hope I am putting forth a good model for my students. Motivating students is a challenge. If I could figure out how to do this, I would share it with the world. I try to be passionate about what I teach and get excited about the lessons, plays songs and so forth, but sometimes, students are just hard to motivate.
Lead by example. Be someone your students model. don't dwell on past mistakes.
My biggest take away is that is a multifaceted job that requires we lead by example as what the students should expect to behave like is determined by our representation of ourselves and field.
Instructors should exhibit professionalism, and be able to teach in different settings.
Lead by example, follow the rules and be a professional while teaching with passion.
The importance of language in the classroom. Making sure that the medical terms used are understood by the student. It is so easy to slip into medical terminology assuming that everyone understands when it is quite the opposite. If we role model this early on they will develop the same skills when they are reinforcing education for the clients.
This was a great course with great reminders. Be professional and lead by example. Model, manage and motivate. I love it!
Be encouraging, and always be a role model
As the instructor you are being a cheerleader and motivator to those you are bringing into the field. It is also imperative to incorporate various learning styles and approaches into the lesson. We want our students to succeed!
The part of the video that talked about how a teacher has to stay humble because there will be someone in the class smarter than you. That was pretty interesting and it also does two things. It makes me prepare more and it keeps me grounded as to what and where I am.
Be professional, a leader, a role model, continue to remain current in up to date practice.
Lead by example. Be professional at all times. Encourage students daily.
