Activity

Internships offer the student and "employer" an opportunity to try before they hire. Often students are offered positions from a successful internship- I know I was.

Internships are a great tool for the student to explore opportunities and test their skills and knowledge base.

Mixing active and passive learning makes for a more well-rounded class and keeps students engaged.

My goal is to incorporate active learning in the classroom rather than just pure lecture.

Preparing for class is key. Not waiting until the last minute and being over-prepared is helpful here.

Learning how to handle and manage different types of students is critical to success in the classroom. This has been very informative.

The idea of center stage students and strategies to manage them was very interesting to me. Allowing them the opportunity to be observers is a great strategy that keeps them engaged but allows others to speak.

Having an icebreaker at the start of the class can engage students and get their attention. This also can alleviate fears.

It is important to educate faculty and students that VAWA crimes include domestic violence and dating violence. It's important for the Title IX Coordinator to have background knowledge of the psychological effects of sexual assault in order to make and objective assessment.

Students are encouraged to report their situation to the police.  As an advocate for my students, I would recommend they report to the Title IX coordinator and police to maximize protection and investigation resources.
