New Boss termination

I was in a position years ago when a non performing boss was replaced with a new one. I was the lead on the projects underneath him and ended working 70-80 hours a week to mantain and keep up with the disorganization comming from HQ. When the new boss came in there was little room for negotiation. He basically said things are going to change and he did not agree with the last boss's decisions. I was interested and eager to try a new direction and they laid off the entire team 2 weeks later. I doubt I had much of a chance, but if I could have presented my interests and concerns to the new manager we may have had more ideas in common and able to make it work.

Honesty

You should always be upfront and truthful with your superiors. First, your boss doesn't like surprises, they always want to know whats going on. Second, being dishonest will cause the boss to lose trust in you and most likely lose your job, or put you in a situation where it is much easier to lose your job. Third, if your boss knows they can trust you they will rely on you more, causing you to be promoted sooner.

In line for promotion

Is it proper for a manager to demean and employee, that is in-line for a promotion, to test how he will react?

What's Yours?

Did you know there is a test to find out your stongest intelligences. There are 7 altogether. Look in to it!

Finding ourselves

Self awareness and continual growth is sometimes difficult to maintain when I get busy with professional and personal life. The continuing growth though, is an important tool for me to prevent complacency in my job. I notice when I improve my skills, through awareness, I tend to have more interest, better attention to detail and improved self-esteem. I do notice though that i have limits. Too much training and thinking can cause me to burn out, so I do have to take a break, and that is my goal for that moment.

How do you prioritize your goals and tasks?

Helping Others with a Career Path

Please provide an example of how you, as a supervisor or mentor, have helped someone else manage his/her career. What were the results?

Applicability

I'm not sure I'm taking the 'right' assessment. I expected an assessment on teaching, not management.

Good Practice for any Job

I thought that the tips were very informative and general enough to be put in practice at any business facility. Work ethic, leading by example, and self awareness and betterment are all examples of how one can become better at whatever position you are in.

Personal Assessment

This is very basic but does provoke thinking about what one would do in specific situtations. I think this would be a good tool not only for the beginner, but could serve as a measure of improvements.

what are the reason to release stress.

Stress Relief

Try this one, take a minute vacation-close your eyes go to your vacation spot mentally. It takes a minute but what a great relief. Added bonus--rotate your neck slowly first to the left and then to the right---the slower the better.

CA102

Good material, maybe a followup in a month to all participants, asking how is it going?

CA101

The manager must model both leadership and managerial behaviors for his team. I remember the best manager I had was one who "walked the talk, not just talked the walk."

Heavy Bag

The best 80 bucks I've ever spent is that which bought a heavy bag to work out my tension on. A ten minute session hitting the heavy bag is a GREAT workout and an incredible stress relief.

Customer Service

I think these topics are great for any student. They really lend to customer service in addition to good practices in the work place. I see a lack of good customer service skills in the market and believe these examples will help move people toward success. Jason

Stress

Finding healthy ways to deal with stress is always a challenge. Meditation helps some people, but others prefer a more physical approach, like going to the gym or running

Bosses

I have found that bosses require feedback on their actions to help them to be better bosses
