RT 104 Best Practices to Enhance Student Retention

Great course, i have learned a lot.  The course emphasizes the importance of Soft skills or Emotional Intelligence in the learning environment and work place.  Unfortunately, those tend to be often overlooked in the school setting as playing an important part for the success of the school both by its employees and customers.  Both employees and customers are to work toward the shared goal of the success of the school.

I have a unique perspective because I am both an Instructor and a Graduate Employment Specialist. I get to be a part of the student's school experience from the first day of class, till their last, and then help them find a rewarding job within the career of their choice that they have worked so hard to join!

One aspect that had not knowm much about, is the admissions process. This course really brought into perspective for me how important a longer, more detailed enrollment process is to a student's ultimate success. I really had no idea how vital… >>>

Is Orientation optional at your institution?

It is important to begin a new program with meeting staff and faculty members of the institution. It can be an exciting time for students.

I am wondering if anyone has made it mandatory to attend Orientation.  I have never worked at an institution that made it mandatory to attend orientation. If a student misses it for one reason or another he or she still can attend classes.  There are other areas that stated in the course (RT 103) orientation really does not end but that does not really cover the word as it is used for a meeting before… >>>

Student retention affects everyone.

This class really highlights the interconnectedness of the students, faculty, and staff at an educational facility. Whether or not a student is able to cope with the stressors in their lives enough so that they can continue on in the program affects more than just themselves. By identifying and addressing problems early, the educator communicates that she or he cares about the students and this can help more of them feel comfortable being forthcoming about their needs and insecurities. Therefore, acts to retain and support one student can ripple throughout the group. Likewise, the loss of a student can lead… >>>

This course made me realize that it is not just one factor that causes a retention issue for an academic institution, but many.

The administrative, admissions team, financial aid, business department, campus directors, instructors, program directors and even the maintenance team play a role in retaining a student.

I realize now how important it is to create an appropriate interpersonal relationship with each student, and show them how much I care about their success. I will be able to take what I've learned in this course and apply it to my daily lesson plan. Well done!

Retention... what does it mean for you and your students?

This course helped me to see the fucntion of the instructor as a part of the support system for students need.  I do enjoy working with students and understanding what I can do to help them through the program. If I do not have a plan to assist them with I know I can offer them support from the advisors, department heads, and the deans.

It is important to everyone to know the chain of command for students to take when they are in need.  I also need to look into the channels that best guide students. When instructors have>>>

Student Retention

I think the whole college should take these courses.  Having a student centered approach is of the upmost importance for success.

This course was an efficient tool to my work and my own development as a professional.

Pleasantly surprised

I am shocked about how much I liked this training module. This one is my absolute favorite and is going to benefit me greatly in my position as a professional - Thank you!

I'm honestly surprised.

I was not expecting this course to be as fun, and interesting as it was. I actually enjoyed it, and defintly feel I took some new techniques away from this module RT-102.

Orientation, Welcome Week and Distance Education

In completing this course I found many of the concepts to be true, however challenging in the online environment. My goal right now is designing an effective Orientation and Welcome Week to be delivered through Distance Education. Some of the barriers we are experiencing include getting students to attend, as attendance is not mandatory and they quite often feel this is not a good use of their time. Another challenge is determining a good time that meets the majority of students' schedules. We do record our Orientations for viewing later, but when students have questions they often want them answered… >>>

Nice format

well presented and good reinforcement of material- Stephen

Model, Mentor and Monitor

This class was very helpful and educational. Faculty and Staff have a big role on every students success. We should  all follow the HABEs everyday.

RT105

I found the Raising the Bar to 'First-Class' Customer Service course very beneficial and related to all of the material at the college I am employed at.  It gave very specific information to help retain students through customer service and gave very good suggestions on how to better the customer service in the every department.

School Retention

This course was beneficial for me to take because retention is an issue. By understanding the components of a student's life and what we as instructors can do to help them, I now have a realization of what it takes to retain students. Thank you. Gayle Zamore.

RT 104

This course was very helpful in regards to student retention. This has been an area of concern in my school recently. We have been losing more students lately. After doing this course, I was made re-aware of some of the things I need to make sure I implement in my classoom. I have been teaching at my current school for three years and it is easy to fall into a routine. When this happens, though, you may seem less enthusiastic about the content of what you're teaching. I need to really focus on staying upbeat and positive, and make the… >>>

Retention for the First Week

New students need help to get started on campus, and the best way to do this is through orientation programs. These programs provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere  that helps students feel at home. This also gives students a chance to meet people and make friends through fun activities. To maintain the good school relationship, initiated with students at orientation, advising programs are strongly recommended. This allows the school to follow-up with the student on a regular basis. The student's problems can be discussed and solved at these meetings and students can also be informed on how to to improve their… >>>

RT105 Great course.....

This was a fantastic learning tool. RT105 really helped improve the way I look at customer service, both personally and as it relates to my school.  I look forward to applying (what I have learned in this course) to my daily practices and interactions with students as the Bursar of my school.
