About me

Activity

I really enjoyed this course. It made me realize that our students are not our only customers. That internal and external customer service involves pretty much everyone who could come in contact with the school.

I really think that most institutions would benefit greatly from frequent secret shopper evaluations. It gives a fair and objective opportunity to evaluate how we are perceived by our customers. This is something I hope will be implemented at my college.

I hope I will be able to take what I have learned regarding customer service and implement it within my classroom setting.… >>>

I have a unique perspective because I am both an Instructor and a Graduate Employment Specialist. I get to be a part of the student's school experience from the first day of class, till their last, and then help them find a rewarding job within the career of their choice that they have worked so hard to join!

One aspect that had not knowm much about, is the admissions process. This course really brought into perspective for me how important a longer, more detailed enrollment process is to a student's ultimate success. I really had no idea how vital… >>>

This course made me realize that it is not just one factor that causes a retention issue for an academic institution, but many.

The administrative, admissions team, financial aid, business department, campus directors, instructors, program directors and even the maintenance team play a role in retaining a student.

I realize now how important it is to create an appropriate interpersonal relationship with each student, and show them how much I care about their success. I will be able to take what I've learned in this course and apply it to my daily lesson plan. Well done!

I absolutely loved the critical thinking exercise ideas which this course provided! My students learn much better if they are engaged and entertained.

My favorite was the T-shirt idea in which the students must draw the internal physical structures as a homework assignment, and then interact with each other in the classroom by then taking stethoscope readings (and thereby assessing their clinical skills).

I will be able to take several of these new ideas and implement them within my classroom.

Discussion Comment
I love the ideas this course gives in order to teach critical thinking. Lecture and reading alone cannot do it. Many students are hands on learners, and most of these scenarios include ways to incorporate that. I especially like the one in which the students must listen to their partners and try to remember what was said. But in fact, the point of the whole exercize assess the visual aspect as well!

This course helped me to hone my skills in order to inspire my students, and help them change their lives for the better. It make me realize that I am a part of a team that helps students to succeed in their chosen field.

It also made me realize that a school in its whole (instructors, receptionists, financial aid officers, admissions representatives, deans, and even security officers) make an impact on the daily lives of the students. Because of this, it's vital that we strive to create a positive and caring atmosphere, so that student retention can improve.

This course was just what I needed. I have been trying to figure out new ways of creating student/instructor interaction, and to make my lecture more active rather than passive. I have come away with new tools of how to implement critical thinking into my lecture, in order to regain student attention and participation (which is usually lost at the 10 minute mark of passive lecture).

I highly recommend this course to any new Instructors, but also seasoned Instructors as well. We could all benefit with some new tricks up our sleeves!

I must say, this course has inspired me to create a fantastic and informative orientation for my future students!

As a fairly new Instructor, I was hired in the middle of the school year. Which meant I was not present at my current students orientation several months ago. This has provided many challenges for me. Such as being able to establish my own requirements of my students, goals, and overall tone in my classroom.

While I greatly enjoy my current class, regardless of how much of a challenge they were in the past, I am really looking forward to implementing… >>>

Out of this particular module of this course, I must say the best idea I can use to incorporate into my own orientations would be the welcome letter from the Instructor! This is such an excellent opportunity to personalize a greeting, and to reenforce my own verbal greeting at orientation. It shows that I care about my students, and gives an example of how well prepared I will be for future classroom time. Not to mention, I only have to write it once, and save it for future classes, reprint it, and sign it personally. I plan to write one… >>>

I have a topic I would like to propose. The college with whom I am affiliated recently decided to stop the accreditation process with the ADA due to a variety of very complicated reasons. However, in my state, it is not necessary to be affiliated with them at all, and would only mean a slight change in way the students would have to test for the state exam. It was more for "show" to be accredited. How do I address this with the students in orientation so that they know they will still receive a stellar education regardless of this… >>>
