Communication with students

I have learned a great in this session.  Communication with students is a key factor.  Hence, I plan on developing perhaps some generic well thought out statements that I will be using to introduce students to the courses, ground rules, and procedures that apply to the course.  This will be a work inprocess as we transition to Hybrid courses.  I will be using as a template your course design and wording and then word smithing to my needs.

Feedback

I learned that feedback should be given in a timely manner. Feedback back on grades is extremely important.

Helping Students Communicate

I have learned that it's important encourage students to respond to each other.

Online Learners

I have learned many different ways on how to interact with students on social media. Taking an online class can be as interactive as taking a face-to-face class.

"An Old Dog Will Learn Some New Tricks"

Times are changing and education must make a new revoluation for learning. A learning process that forces us to look at how teach and communication with students and our peers. This course was an reflection on how I was so comfortable in teaching students the old way,(F2F). See learned a new trick!

Communication Guidelines

Just like in the Face to Face setting, guidelines are necessary for both the student and the teacher to be successful in the class.  Procedures and guidelines for best practices must be communicated effectively from the beginning of the course and be accessable to students throughout the course via a syllabus or Code of Conduct.  I have found that posting, sharing, and reminding students is essential for them to get in the pattern, get in the routine of how the classroom - on line or face to face - in order for there to be a strong community of learners… >>>

SOLD OUT!

As instructors we must sell out to our students with the e-learning.  If we as instructors get frustrated so will our students.  Our students feed off our vibes that we are projecting.

Blessed

I am so thankful to have these online courses. I can see where and why I have made a few mistakes. I needed to learn all of this information before teaching online, however, I am glad to know now what is important to be an effective online instructor.

Conmmunication

Onlin communication is good only if the stuent would catch on knowing how important commication if verbally and non-verbally.  Nothing can be accomplished if we do not communicate.  Online learning does not show physically what the communication is but ist is non-verbally with written feeling and expression. It is just like communication in the job profession expecially in the medical field: if it was not written it was not done.  Communition if vital.

Online

The Online teaching is different and has good potential for learning in a new way. I always tell my student when accomplishing something new that it it not hard it is just new so learn and grow into it with confidence.  This was something that was spoken of when I was in my Senior Year in High School that there will be a time that our students will be working on computers for their education. The time is here.

Creating an Online Community

Due to COVID-19, creating an online community among the students in my courses has become crucial. This course, Online Language: Communicating with Students, has provided me with the guidelines I need to establish and maintain successful communication among my students. Three types of communication were pointed out which were instructor to student, student to instructor, and student to student. Establishing clear guiedlines for communicating with one another in the course should be outlined and made readily available in the syllabus. The instructor should be consisten in feedback and watch the tone of all communication with the student. Know when to… >>>

Communication In Remote Learning

There is a vast difference in communicating in a traditional classroom versus a remote classroom. There is so much to consider as it relates to a nonverbal environment.

Very Informative

The information was very helpful for me as an online instructor in traing, I appreciate the tips. Every module gave me insight as to how I can be successful and assist students in being successful.

Useful tool for engaging online learners

While taking courses for my degree, I took primairly online courses and one of the amazing tools the instrutor used for our research and discussion board was Google Earth. The instructor gave us discussion questions and assignments based on the information given and we had to review and look up thingd all around the world. Then we would have to discuss our findings and give feed back. Really enjoyed it!

Action Plan

Still working on the action plan.  It will definitely involve motivational items and social engagement.

I have a LOT more to do than I expected!

It's rare that I get as much out of a course as I'm getting out of this one. I already have a ton of ideas about better ways to connect with and motivate my learners.

Some of the take-aways I intend to take action on are:

  • Wikis for learners to share findings/resources
  • Facebook group or maybe a Slack channel so that DQs can feel more conversational
  • Improving the specificity, meaningfulness, and timeliness of feedback
  • Delivering content in even more ways than I currently do so every learner's style is addressed
  • Remind.com is a great idea
  • More gamification opportunities for learners

Effective Online Learning

I plan to stratagize an effective online learning program for my students so that they have the ability to collaborate and communicate in a manner that allows them to gain meaningful knowledge about their academic interests.  Providing them a well designed rubric in order to fullfil all of their academic requirements is essential.  I've realized more through this online training that it is imparative to remain transpartent with students so that they have a clear understanding of expectations, rules and consequesences.  The online environment can be a very valuable working tool for those that want to use it but can… >>>
