E-learning is same as a class room and you will still have students disruptive in class.

Keys to student retention is ease of use by the learners. A key would be to make the content as user friendly as possible.

The communication received through the online classroom will mostly come from email. Additionally, learning the different types of learners are imperative for understanding individual students and their learning needs.

Even when all materials are available, students often struggle to succeed without instructor guidance in developing the skills needed to effectively manage their learning.

Email is the main form of communication in online classes, but requires the instructor to stay on top of it. Organization, record keeping, and responsiveness are essential to be succesful.

Keeping engagement during online courses is important to keep students excited about the course and material. Ensuring to have every student participate in discussion helps keep the information fresh and relevant. Sending personal messages to students who seem quiet, or participate less, can help make a connection and encourage the student to participate more.

There are different styles of learning.  Those students who are quiet might need a personal message to help them stay involved.  Those students who are procrastinators need you to give them the expectations in order for them to stay focused.

The different types of learners and considerations for each

This section went over how email is the main form of communication.

In an online learning environment, email often serves as the primary form of communication between instructors and students. While it is convenient and widely accessible, relying heavily on email can quickly become overwhelming if not managed properly.

One major challenge is the high volume of messages instructors may receive. Without a clear system for organizing emails, important inquiries can be overlooked or delayed. To address this, instructors should establish structured communication practices, such as using folders, labels, or filters to categorize messages by course, topic, or urgency.

Timely responses are also essential in maintaining an effective e-learning environment. Students depend on prompt feedback to stay engaged and on track. Setting clear expectations—for example, responding within 24–48 hours—helps create consistency and trust.

Additionally, keeping records of email communications is important for future reference. Saved messages can help track student progress, clarify past instructions, and provide documentation in case of misunderstandings or disputes.

Overall, while email is a vital communication tool in online teaching, its effectiveness depends on organization, timely responses, and proper record-keeping.
