I learned that one way to help students be successful is to look at the environment through the eyes of the students. Being mindful of how the classroom or laboratory is setup and if I could do anything to improve it is key to keeping students motivated.
In my experience so far with this material, is the gap between traditional and non-traditional students. I see now the chance to let non-traditional students relay the past experiences in the class so the younger students can lean from them also, not just the instructor.
Self-actualization becomes the goal. This should be based on transparency...why are we doing this? If we want students to reach such lofty goals we have to give them the road may to get them there.
This module gave me a good perspective as to not ignore things outside of the classroom/things of which I don't necessarily have direct control. It is important to think about what else is influencing student's ability to learn. I really liked learning about "impersonal problems" things like access to parking.

One thing that I found interesting in this module was how it described adult learners bringing their own experiences from the working world into the classroom. This is something I haven't thought much about, but I believe it will be helpful to keep in mind as I start my first class.
Instructors can assist by keeping the class engaged, almost following a "no one gets behind" concept. I find it helpful if students and instructors build trust and good communication, students will be more likely to engage and participate.
I learned as an instructor to remain neutral and not let the students frustrations about things out of my control, such as, parking, financial aid get away from the learning environment. I also learned that not all students learn the same way and to remind myself to understand what motivates them to learn. "What is their why"
From this module, I learned the importance of understanding students’ diverse backgrounds, motivations, and learning styles when developing retention strategies. I plan to apply this by tailoring my approach to meet students where they are—using personalized communication, recognizing external barriers, and creating a supportive environment that fosters engagement and success.

From reading the topic above, I feel that engagement is vital to keep students motivated. By sharing your experience that apply to the course can give better insight of what to expect in a real life situation.
Students are all different with different experiences, motivations or drives, and they respond differently to external forces. There is a baseline of what is expected of us as teachers, then there is an array of possible strategies that can be tailored to the needs of individual students based on their differences. Knowing those differences will enable the use of those strategies.
Best way to have great retention rate would be not just having great relationship with your students but being able to communicate with and having "proper delivery strategies" knowing how to speak to your students not all are the same and making them feel welcome.
Being able to be supportive and create an environment condusive to their learning.
