I try various methods to engage students.  When I lecture, I incorporate videos.  I share stories as I discuss concepts.  Kahoot games are a great way to engage students and explain why responses are correct or incorrect.  Meeting 1:1 with students to review their exam scores helps build relationships.  For group activities we do case studies.  I have also done the telephone game to discuss communications.  I would like to do more group activities as time permits. 

Establish clear expectations including due dates and late assignment policy.  Begin with icebreakers to create a psychologically safe environment.

Be a role model.   Listen actively without judgement.  Develop trust.  Ask open ended questions to elicit where they are at and what they need.  Repetition is crucial as is changing the learning techniques.

Use a variety of learning methods to engage different type of learners.   Tell stories to exemplify key points.  As an instructor demonstrate positivity and passion and students will recognize and appreciate engagement. 

As instructors, have the passion and excitement when conveying information.  Truly care about the students.  Start the day with a motivational video or icebreaker.  Create a psychologically safe learning environment.

Understand student's intrinsic needs and view the environment (extrinsic needs) through the eyes of the student.  

Ask students which order to provide instruction.  For example, do they want the quiz first, then activities or lecture?  Ask the students about the pace of instruction.  Create a psychologically safe environment for students to speak up.
