Being prepared from day one is vital to a good classroom setting, be engaged and communicate with students about course properly 

Objectives are for the instructor and the learner. 

In order to be effective in teaching the objectives, and in order to keep track of what needs to be done, it is smart to be prepared.

It is important to prepare before the course and engage with students as they arrive to class. Apply a personal touch.

While lecture can teach and pass on information, what we should care about as instructors is what will the student remember - how can I move away from lecture into active learning and engagement with the students.

I learned to keep a checklist with the important topics and task I need to perform that class session. Also jot down what follow-up task are needed for the students.

I need to get better at clearing stating the goals and objectives for the course, and then review them at the end of the course to show the student how far they have come.

Be prepared.  Know material.  Go over syllabus in detail outlining objectives.  Get there early.  Get to know your students and pronounce their names correctly.

Early and careful planning pays off large in the end, especially when you are new.
