Building relationships is vital in any learning community, online classrooms are no different. The means to which relationships are build may be somewhat different. I love the idea of short biographies of both the student and instructor. It is also a good way to get students to interact with each other in order to get to know one another.
While you may not be able to physically intereact with students you can interact with their posts. Be sure to show your online presence early on and respond in a timely manner.
Letting your students know that you are there is very important. You can build a relationship with them online, just as you could in a classroom. It essential that they feel confident, and by participating in discussion, you can make them feel that way.
Building a relationship with students is still possible outside of the traditional classroom. Students value the instructor's teaching credentials and achievements. I learned how to manage synchronous and asynchronous discussions.
My Name is Ceilia Munoz. I have been a Medical Assistant Instructor for 11 yrs. I have worked in the Medical field for over 40 year. After working in a surgical office for 29 yrs I decided to give back to the community what i learned all those years in the field. I have a passion to teach and I love my students. It is my passion to put out excellent MA's with integrity and with their own passion for their profession.
I like how this section discussed how you are not able to see the concerns and body language inside of a classroom. The biggest thing in online learning is to how to get to know the people. I like the idea of posting a biogrpahy of myself for the students to know. Not only the academic but to also show a little personal part of your life so the students can see that you are a human as well.
Business as usual but from an unusual place. Still be the same instructor but from a different location. Still interact with my students, just as I did when I was in the classroom.
I earned my Ed.S. degree online and thought it was a high quality program. I see many features listed here that my professors used throughout my coursework. I really like the idea of posting a biography of myself to begin with, along with having the kids do the same thing. Since I'm a middle school teacher, my topics for the kids to include will be different from the ones mentioned in the tutorial of this lesson. But, overall, I think that will set the tone for having me connect with the kids right from the start.
I learned that it is extremely important to establish your personal presence during an e-learning process, and this course proveded multinple ways we can do it. Also, it is crucial to know the biography of the students and understand their background.
getting to know your students and letting them get to know about you
At the beginning of the course I will send a welcoming note with a short biography of myself including my credentials and experience. I will request that each student send a short biography of themselves also.
What I have learned from module 2 is to be an ever presence and above all means be an ever present in my authority as well begin buliding a relationship with students from day one
Module #2 Placed emphasis on Re-visiting Classroom Strategies, Projecting Authority and Establishing Relationships. Establishing and building relationships one-on-one promotes trust, respect and consideration. My students will be asked to post a short biography of themselves for their first assignment. I will also post a biography of myself informing students of my educational credentials, achievements, professional experience, hobbies and interests.
I've always felt that projecting my credentials was "BIG-HEADED." This is the first class I have taken saying this is a way of projecting our presence. I guess this is essential in virtual or distance learning situations where students need some way of identifying who we are personally and professionally.
I have learned of the importance of establishing authority in the online setting by posting my Bio, photo, and teaching credentials & experience. I have been reluctant to do this in the past due to a belief that it's not all about me...not really into self-promotion. However, after advancing through this module and reflecting afterward, I see now that it is important for the students (and possibly their parents) to see that I possess significant & relevant credentials, experience, and education in the specialty that I teach.
I really like the idea of posting reminders so that they feel like you are in touch with what is going on in the course. I am going to start doing this. Also, one thing I would like to start doing is posting a sample of the answer for assignments.
Projecting your presence into the e-learning arena is important because you give/project a sense of comfort and security to the student learner. Therefore, providing support and enhancing their learning experience. The student learner will feel more secure and have a higher successful result in the program.
I learned that in an online learning environment students acquire a higher sense of comfort and security when they firmly know for sure that someone is available to support them and make their learning experience a successful one. This is what makes the instructor's projection of their presence so important.
Of the Four popular and effective ways of projecting my presence in an e-learning environment, I would like to make sure I
answer students questions and provide them with informative and constructive feedback in a timely manner (within 24 hr. turnaround)
Projecting who I am and what I stand for from a distance is very important in gaining the trust and confidence of my students in knowing the subject matter and that I am very familiar wiht the subject matter that I am teaching
I loved the idea of sending the personal message to each student by the end of the first week.
