Documenting Your Lesson Plans

Writing our lesson plan I took into concideration that someone with less experiance than myself will have to teach this course as well. Putting in a step by step "how to" for the student anso helps with a covering or "sub" for the day

Identifying Student Knowledge

I teach a couple different classes the first course I am in is an interductery course. Using real life exaples keep the student interested on how this is relevent to his future in the field. The other course is at the end of the program, using a pre test lets me know how much they have retained

Clicker Tests

Something that I found really helpful was the use of clicker tests. At the end of my lecture, pending time of course, I would do a review test of the chapters I just lectured on. The students would be able to answer the questions without fear of missing one and being docked points. It was a great way to involve class participation as well as review and Q&A time.

Preparation

Preparing lessons plans is so beneficial to any instructor, and being very knowledgeable of the subject that is being presented gives the instructor a greater learning outcome.

Previous Experience

Many of my students have had some level of training in the college setting, which can turn out to be a positive or a negative. Due to years of applying knowledge a certain way, it hinders them from being able to apply new technology. As an instructor this is where my challenges come from, assessments really help to break down many of these barriers.

Objectives

Objectives are very important , I always make a point to my students to know your objectives for each class because when you complete that class you should have a understanding of the objectives .

Lesson plan

Depending on the field and the course that is being taught , lesson plans can be very challenging for a new instructor.

advantages to resources and time mngt.

In this course I am learning advantages of bringing resources to the class, gaining insight into student's knowledge and time management.

Field Trips

I teach Audio Technology. I find that getting the students out of the class room and into a real studio is invaluable. Classroom time is always important, but physically taking a trip really stimulates interests in my students.

Tech

I mix lecture, with videos and good old common sense, demos with tastings and face to face evaluations, its from the heart and I let them see it and its very intimate. Just us and it works!

Taxomony

we use big words to a generation that is tech driven and they don't really know what we are talking about unless they look it up via the I phone- is that learning?? or remembering to forget to get a grade..

student input

They all have a voice, some guided, some misguided and some think they run the class. Giving away the power and letting them think they have it, is something else. Pulling them back to the center is real learning, for all of us..

students

I always start the first day with a bio questionaire as a starting point for me, for them

ED105

providing timely feedback on examinations lower the stress leves and provide information on progress

ED105

If the student becomes overwhelmed with the materials, it is important to consider this as important and to stop and break up the material in smaller content areas.

ED105

It is important that the instructor utilize a variety of tools for presenting the materials. a combination of visual, tactile, social forms will help students to comprehend and retain the materials

ED105

Knowing the type of instructor you are is helpful in preparing istructional materials for your students

What is the goal of educating students

I want my students to be successful in the field that they choose,so I try to help them by sharing experiences, information, knowledge,in a way that is fun, interesting, and that helps them to use their imagination,so that they are truly excited about what it is they have learned and how they can put it into action.

Avoiding unprepared students should start with admissions?

Sometimes we are given a bad crop of students by our colleges admissions team. A good way to avoid is I have found is frequent communication with the admissions team so they understand the rigors and expectations of the curriculum and convey this to their prospects.

Prepackaged power points.

What do you guys do when you receive pre-packaged power points presentations. I generally just get familiar with them and skip to the parts I can use, telling the students to use the rest as a resource. What do you guys do?
