from this section I need to look at my classroom through the eyes of my students. try to gain their prospective and make positive changes where that can be done
This course is helpful in understanding the different experiences and how to best educate the students.
Getting to know your students, their backgrounds, and their goals will not only aid in their learning, but could also aid in teaching of the class. Students can greatly benefit from learning from each other as well as you, the instructor. Listen and be supportive without allowing for disruption or loss of professionalism.
I learned about helping meet the extrinsic needs of students and how meeting this needs, will help ensure their intrinsic needs are also met.
I think no matter what age or group a student might fall into, dignity and respect to each is a standard that i would expect and will practice with these individuals. I also think that listening and validating their input will help boost confidence and overall moral in the classroom. Hopefully with this understanding, it will give them a positive perspective on jobs they encounter because attitude comes first then skill and knowledge.
This section was successful with reminding me how an instructor must be supportive to his students. The instructor has to be able to:
- provide enough guidance and counselling to help the student feel comfortable in the class
- emotional enough to receive any concerns of students
- maintain class with integrity and prover, fair doctrine with which all students must understand and ultimately comply with.
Understanding the correct approach when dealing with different students with different backgrounds and different life struggles is super important when trying to encourage them.
Comment on ashlee stanley's post: Knowing their background and their culture.
Understanding the every students brings in the class a situationg that warrants the teacher to understand them, to be able to teach them.
Comment on Amy Horak's post: target student needing support will appreciate a support.
Instructors who emphasize inclusivity, adaptability, and empathy in their teaching methods can make a significant difference in the lives of adult students, especially those with disabilities. This creates a more equitable and compassionate learning environment that benefits everyone
I learned that no matter the students age, everyone has different experiences that lead them to the point that they are at and it is important to make what I'm teaching relatable to their experiences.
As an adult learner myself, it is important to understand that each student brings different life experiences and trials and tribulations to the table and the student population in a particular class will vary. This module reminds me to remember that different people are in the class for different reasons.
There were good examples on ways to engage diverse students.
This section has taught me to be a better instructor
Students must learn to balance work, studying and life in order to succeed. Students that are coddled in the education system will struggle in the 'real' world as professional institutions will not be as lenient. Providing a supportive yet professional learning environment will model behavior that is expected in the professional setting.
I found this information to be very interesting and useful. I feel like a have a bit more of an understanding of the students and how to handle some of the roadblocks that come with instructing. Also, ways to help students feel more comfortable well navigating being a student.
Teaching an understanding the goals the students want. As a instructor it's important to show the students what the outcome of this course.
I learned the importance of discussing topics that get them to open up and want to be involved.
After reviewing this section, It brings to the forefront, the need to be an active listener and observer to help identify and aid the student to self identify, pathways to success and problems that need to be overcome to help achieve that success.
