I have learned that there should be a valid reason for sharing information similar to a need to know basis for a patient and HIPPAA. If it is not something that a faculty member needs to know that the information should be kept confidential and not shared with the staff member. If it is a valid reason, then steps must be followed for the staff member to access the information because the students' right to privacy should always be respected.
FERPA is important because just like patients, students rights have to be respected. Their records and privacy of those records should be respected and kept confidential.
It is important to keep an eye on discipline issues and handle them when they are occurring.
I really enjoyed learning about the 4 classroom management styles. I feel I am definitely the Guide (mostly). I have some Controller sprinkled in there at times and some Buddy sprinkled in there at other times. I need to put in to affect the tips for being a better Guide for my students.
I learned that online course content needs to be structured in a way that encourages students to interact, but offers content that is clear and meant to adapt to each student's learning needs.
Providing support to the students. Encouraging more interaction and providing guidance when needed. Allowing students to take ownership of their learning experiences.
The technology being used needs to be user friendly. It needs to make sure that all students have access to it. It is designed to help the students to learn through interaction. It also allows them to learn at their own pace.
Consent given in the past does not automatically imply consent for the future. Also helping everyone understand what sexual assault is and how to avoid it.
Wen an incident happens, it is investigated. Documents that can be included are police reports, student files, personnel files, etc. A live hearing can take place but is not technically required. Criminal charges can be filed.
When something occurs that would fall under Title IX, it requires someone to respond appropriately to the situation.
