This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Title IX and VAWA Training: Building Safer Campuses --> Prevention and Education

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

Consent is a voluntary agreement that cannot be given by someone who is mentally or physically incapacitated or below the age of consent. Consent with one person does not imply future consent or consent with another person. Consent may also be withdrawn at any time.

It is nice to see how important bystanders are. They can really help.

As a bystander you can also help

I thought this section of the course was extremely informative especially because of the detailed ways they described the different crimes and dynamics of sexual assault. It was important to also learn how a bystander can interfere with any sexual assault if they suspect that is the case. I was interested to see how a victim can be affected psychologically post-trauma and how that can also affect their reports neurobioigically due to a trauma response. Very informative!

It is good to know what a bystander can do to help.

I learned how Title IX and VAWA guide schools in protecting students through sanctions, interim measures, and retaliation safeguards. I’ll apply this by helping ensure students receive appropriate support and by promoting a safe, compliant campus environment.

Good to know what a bystander can do.  We all have a responsibility to do our part to protect students and community.

I learned what steps and considerations I should take if I am a bystander to a sexual assault, harassment, etc. It is especially important that the victim/complainant is not pressured in any way to take any sort of action. I will take that into consideration if I ever find myself in that situation.

this was very informative, i learned alot on how to make campuses safer for everyone

I gained a deeper understanding of how proactive education and awareness programs help create safer campuses.

I learned that prevention and education efforts under Title IX and VAWA focus on a campus that prioritizes awareness, respectful behavior, and early intervention first. I plan to apply this by promoting open conversations that help students understand their roles in keeping a safe environment.

I learned that a safe campus starts with prevention and education, supported by strong awareness efforts, bystander engagement, and clear communication of policies.

This module has reinforced my understanding of bystander's ways in which to use to diffuse an event.

I learned that remedial measures under the interim measures provided to the complainant can be accepted or not.  But if the complainant decides to use an offer, they can change their mind at anytime.

I've learned that the punishment for an offender should match the frequency and severity of the offence, regardless of the sex of the offender.  The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”) has stated that when schools do not hold perpetrators accountable through punishment or when the sanctions imposed are not commensurate with the seriousness of the act, the school is at risk for continuing to violate Title IX by allowing a hostile environment to continue. I've learned the definitions of offences such as rape. date assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, and others.

From this module, I learned that prevention and education are key to creating a safe and respectful campus environment. Understanding the importance of awareness programs, bystander intervention, and clear communication about policies helps reduce incidents of sexual and gender-based misconduct. I intend to apply this by actively promoting educational resources, encouraging open discussions, and supporting initiatives that foster safety and respect within our community.

I learned a lot from this. I learned about how bystanders can help prevent an incident.

I learned that prevention and education are the building blocks towards a safe campus

I learned how critical prevention, education are in building a safer campus environment.

Understanding the meaning of consent and psychological behavior of a victim are important as a responsible employee.

I’ve learned that creating a safe campus involves proactive measures, not just responding to incidents.
