Catalogs are critical to the admissions process. Most of what you have discussed with your poential student is documented in the catalog. Information on policy, rules and procedures are in the catalog. The requirements to enroll are documented for reference. The program of choice as well as all other programs are in the catalog so the student may read up on classes and course descritions. All the student needs to know to feel comfortable about his decision is there.

Catalogs entail procedures and information that students may inquire about. This hand out is also a student's right to receive.

Chris,

I agree, students are compensated through achieving their goal. Since compensation for both direct and indirect enrollments is now prohibited, how would you suggest compensating employees for meeting or exceeding goals?

Cindy Bryant

Catalogs i think are valable to students because it gives them an over view of how the school runs and what to expect as far as rules and regulations go as well as polices in general and other imperative information that one would want to know upon enrolling into school. Catalogs are valuable to employees because we need to know what refer back to as regards to our own policies.
It is a daily handbook for us to use

Catalogs provide a centralized and organized location for student and academic information. This includes Admissions requirements, Financial Aid information and Student Services.

The catalog is very important because there is nothing misleading in it. If a student wants to know the answer to a specific question, it should be listed in the catalog. The same goes for the employee. If they don't know the answer to the question, the can reference the answer from the book. This ensures they are giving factual information.

Catalogs are valuable because they contain all the information the school must present to students.
It can be used by the admission to inform prospective students of rules, programs viability and as a tool to the information that must be provided to the student.
Catalogs are good for both sides as a complete information’s of the school program and regulations

Our catalog is a very important document because it contains clear statements of our commitments to, and expectations of our students and graduates. Our catalog informs students of our history, our accrediting agencys, approvals and memberships. The catalog discloses our company ownership and Board of Directors. It identifies our program offerings and introduces new students to our faculty, administrative staff and leadership. After the information about their individual programs, perhaps the most important information provided to students in our catalog are the Student Code of Conduct and the Grievance Procedure. When I speak at New Student Orientation, I ask the attendees to raise their hands if they received a catalog - all hands go up. I ask how many know where their copy of the catalog is, and an alarming number of hands go down. I encourage our students (and staff) to keep their catalog copy handy and to review it often.

The school catalog is so valuable because it holds you to accountability to what you are telling your student and employees and not only that it allows students to see the type of school they may or may not attend. It gives them a mind set of what is expected and what we require and offer.

Catalogs are critical because it gives clear and accurate information about the program.

I think the catalog is valuable to students because it gives them an overview of what to expect and what we expect from them. I think it also is a guide and helpful tool to look at as an employee to see how our school operates and what it says about us...it helps us to work to that standard

The Catalogs provides the students with the essentials information needed so that the student can make the right choices and investment in their education.

The Catalog provides the school employee physical information on paper of what the institution Mission Statement is and provided documentation on all Rules and Regulations

The catalogue is an essential tool for all our students, in essence it lays out all of the students’ rights and responsibilities. It works in conjunction with the enrollment agreement and as such is part of the contract between what we have promised the student and what we expect of the student.

The catalog provides both students and employees information on programs, policy, and cost. It also contains many of the required diclosures.

The catalog is an essential tool for the employee because it allows the employee have a place to verify data when speaking with a student or perspective student. The catalog may also protect an employee legally. The student can use the catalog to better understand what the program requires and to see specifically what each course will offer. The catalog also details campus rules.

Antoinette,

You reference an excellent point when you mention that the catalog may protect the school and the student. Many people see the catalog as only a reference point for delivering information but it is actually a the extension of the enrollment agreement.

Cindy Bryant

The catalog acts as a most invaluable tool for both the student and school representatives. It is informative and instructive as it lays out all of the basics in black and white. A serious student would read their catalog cover to cover getting a good picture of what to expect and what are the schools expectations.

Joy,

As an employee of a learning institution, do you feel that we have the responsibility to encourage our students to read the catalog? Why or why not?

Cindy Bryant

Yes, we have a responsibility to encourage students to read the catalog. The catalog will provide the disclosures, information about policies and procedures, and set forth the standard of complaint resolution If the student has committed to enroll, the prospect also has a responsibility to know and understand how one should govern themselves as a student, the school's expectations of a student, and as a student what a student should expect from the school.

Establishing guidlines and policies and cirriculum is always a win win move. It keeps most expectations within the relm of the program. As a resource guide, students have the infomation to contact all the services available, or at least a starting point, pertaining to the school. It is a resource guide and reminder for both student and faculty/admissions.
