Activity

Whether to implement active learning early or later in the program is much like a phase in our recruitment process where we try to weed out those who are truly interested in the program and what it has to offer versus those who want to pick up a hobby or trying to make their parents happy.

I believe gamification is a wonderful tactic in education especially in my field since definite rules and procedures need following.

I believe adaptive learning applies to students who are entering new fields with no previous experience.  That way student who have an affinity to the subject matter can accelerate and quickly find the more challenging aspects of the material.

Conversely, students who need more help have support too.  These students tend to consume more resources of the teacher, so having prepared activities for the faster learners is paramount.  Giving busy work to occupy students may help with the lock-step nature of a traditional classroom, but this may fatigue a student’s energy for incorporating new concepts or abilities.

I entered this program as an instructor with regular students, and a lot of the learning material lended well in an educational setting.  The quiz was more of a workplace scenario.

There was an issue with one of the video learning breaks, but I believe it's getting fixed.

I'm in a trade/vocational school and I'm excited re-examine my lessons with a new perspective.

Simulation exercises are valuable, but are difficult to reproduce in a realistic manner, so I have to remind my students that some simulations are purely academic.  I point out the goals of the exercise so everybody is on the same page.

It's good to hear a collection of supporting information is more valuable than just finding one source of information.

In the past module I wanted to discuss the need to filter information along with being literate in online media.  This progression totally makes sense.

I'm very impressed with how quickly the newest generation of students can find and recognize their target information.

Advances in technoogy are meant to make our lives easier.  Should advances in media technology make gaining literacy easier?

As long as the information is presented in easily digestible chunks, or interactions with other learners makes comprehension fun, balancing  aspects of literacy is tricky since preferece usually goes to the most easily consumed.

I believe the separate disciplines need their own dedication, and most often they are mixed to prove comprehension.

Many times I have noticed students too busy writing down notes and failing to actively listen to a presentation. In order to avoid this, telling the students they will recieve study material after the discussion often settles students into active listening; more so if I follow up with brief questions frequently.

Writing and speaking are my favourites for gaging comprehension.

I find writing is the most difficult discipline to incorporate because not everyone's background is the same.

Most often I'd stay away from people who exude negativity in the workplace, but now that I'm more educated about recognizing and personally handling going through a crisis, I'll be a lot more sensitive to any of the markers.

As taken from the previous class, ED400, someone who has burned out may eventually find themselves in a crisis.

I've found this when students cannot learn a new skill right away.  As he or she sees her peers progressing, this may add pressure to the student and hinder further development.  Usually I'll suggest taking a break and work on other things. … >>>

I believe meditation has a lot to do with coping with stress.  Not only is it a great way to decompress and relax, meditation helps excercise the ability to focus on the task at hand and ignore outside influences in the environment that cause distraction.

Lacking concentration then stressing over work that wasn't done becomes a feedback loop that spins out of control to burnout.

Yes.  Communicating online professionally can be challenging.  Sarcasm, intonation, and emotion is difficult to convey without any chance of misinterpretation.
