The way that students absorb information will vary based upon the quality of the technology used.
Learners seem to prefer apps. It's been helpful having an app developed by the school for the learners to have easy access to many categories of information they need in an instant.
This module reinforced that technology is not a support tool, but a strategic driver to effectiveness, innovation, and engagement in education and professional settings. I learned that when technology is used intentionally - aligned with clear objectives - it can enhance communication, improve collaboration, personalize learning, and support data-driven decision-making. Moving forward, I intend to apply these insights by integrating appropriate digital tools to streamline processes, fosters active participation, and create more flexibility, accessible learning and working environments, while remaining, mindful that technology should enhance human interaction rather than replaced it.
Technology is highly important and essential to the online learning experience. Studies show the Internet for some young professionals are just as important to the essentials of life. While that may seem a bit dramatic in comparison to some, it shows how important technology is to the future Developers of the world.
This module helped me better understand how technology both supports and complicates student retention in online learning environments. I learned that while retention technologies and data tools are important, they are most effective when paired with strong human connection and intentional communication. I was especially struck by the importance of social presence and how the choice of communication tools can influence how supported students feel. Going forward, I plan to be more mindful of how I use technology to communicate clearly, warmly, and consistently with online students.
As of 2026, reflections on this module emphasize the evolution of online education from an "alternative" to a primary mode of professional and academic development
I learned that technology plays a critical role in shaping communication, relationships, and retention in online learning. Understanding trends, ensuring accessibility, and balancing high-tech tools with human interaction are essential to effectively supporting students. I plan to apply this by using intentional, student-centered communication strategies and staying updated on EdTech developments to enhance engagement and success.
I learnt that in virtual learning environments, technology mediates the relationship of all members of the educational community to the school or institution itself. Moreover, since technology is constantly evolving, those supporting online learners must stay abreast of the latest trends to understand technology's value and limitations in creating personal connections with students who may never step foot on a physical campus.
Communicating with students through technology is quite different from in-person interactions. Which is why Education professionals need to be aware of the differences if they wish to develop strong working alliances with students they may never physical meet. Therefore, leveraging both high-tech and high-touch retention strategies is vital to improving student retention.
I learned that technology should support learning through efficiency, clarity, and access. I plan to apply this by using tools that improve communication and student engagement.
Asking open ended questions to stay engaged with students
Today's education is increasingly requiring the use of TMC. I will continue practicing immediate communication via email, LMS inbox, assignment feedback and SIS SMS messaging. Moving forward I will welcome my Students with a meet and greet video conference.
Having proper understanding of utilizing technology is crucial for providing students with the best learning experience.
Using tools to keep students engaged is not often used by schools who truly need it. Also, there are a lot of students who may not have the appropriate access to the internet and this can become frustrating for them when the connection online is bad. It is also important for the Instructor to make efforts to be viewed as a real person by using video announcements.
Communication is everything; and personal connection is most important.
I use a video introduction as standard practice. It may be advantageous to use video for feedback. My concern is that it would take significant time and not be watched by the students.
It is important to stay up to date with technology that can improve learning for students and ensure that students know how to use it when using different technologies.
It is important for students to understand how to use the technology used in the class and have access to IT help if needed.
It is essential to have IT assistance for learners. Especially for post assignments and videos.
Throughout this module, I have deepened my understanding of how intentional communication and the integration of technology can enhance the learning experience. I have learned that a concise and focused dialogue, especially when working with student teachers, is key to building trust and clarity. Sometimes, incorporating visual aids or video conferencing becomes essential to ensure mutual understanding.
I learned that technology trends matter to retention. Technology-Mediated communication - TMC, importance and ability to shape communications without non-verbal cues.
