As a part time instructor and a very long retail optical management experience, I confirm communication and collaboration are the key points for a successful on-line learning environment and an effective team player in a future work place.

Rubrics are great to give students a tool to follow for an assignment to know the expectations.

I learned that discussion boards builds type of classroom community. Has anyone ever thought about doing a seperate discussion board and keeping it open for student questions? or even a group chat on team?

Collaboration and communication are two components to develop a successful online community.

I learned that students are individuals and they all learn differently. We as teachers have to recognize and adapt to that.

Good communication must be specific.  Students must understand what an instructor means and expects from them!

Discussions as a best practice have become tedious - participation policies and rubrics can be used to re-energize this aspect of an online course

A well designed rubric provided before the start of a project, will make expectations clear and provide enhanced learning.

I like the idea of using rubrics to be consistent in grading discussion forums.

Rubrics are critically important. They provide feedback for the student and help allow the instructor to maintain consistency.

The usage of a Rubric its a great tool for teachers and it helps with discussion, communication and collaboration.

Communication is vital!  I have a better understanding of the rubric.

Reading, commenting and using a rubric for grading discussion boards are all useful.

I have used Rubrics in the past and find that they are extremely helpful, especially when a student will contest a grade.

It is important for the instructor to be the guide for the course, however give other students an opportunity to comment first.  I will implement this going forward.

Rubrics allow for more consistency in grading and help the students understand expectations

Participation in the communication is enhance by the instructor having clear guidelines for participating. Instructions must be clear but not too rigid, It must also allows for socialization if it involved discussions between their peers. Central to the tasks it must be on cue and less digress from the topic at hand. The use of rubic allows for continuity in grading process.

As an instructor we are tasked with the responsibility of monitoring, guiding and motivation student participation and community involvement.

It's important to use rubics to grade outcomes utlizing a scale approach.  Rubics are not used for better communication.
