I learned the principles of a course framework and module templates, and how they support consistency and help to guide learning objectives. I plan to implement these by structuring my course with weekly modules that contain chunked, multimodal content.
I have learned about the importance of creating a database and how this database can save time.
The concept of a repository of materials is a great idea and would save time. I have a small Google Drive based group of materials but most of these items come from the course reference materials.
I was surprised to hear that too much video may cause cognitive overload. However, I'm glad it's not the only thing that will capture students' attention. It seems that healthy balance is the key.
I learned that having a well-organized syllabus with modules of equal length greatly helps students navigate an online course more easily and successfully. When the course is structured consistently, students can manage their time effectively, anticipate workload, and focus on learning rather than trying to figure out the organization of the material. This clarity not only supports student engagement but also promotes a smoother progression through the course content, leading to better overall outcomes.
Chunking information is important for students to be able to retain information.
I have learned the importance of consistency in formatting course content. The value of creating a variety of methods to deliver course content that appeals to different types of learners was reinforced for me. I have also learned that creating a course objective database to house various types of learning enhancement tools, like videos and graphs, will help keep me better organized.
At ECPI, the instructors don't create the class.
It is important to structure everything with consistency and ease of use. Designing modules to look the same throughout the course will alleviate any navigation issues and allows students to have solid expectations for their general workflow in the course.
I learned that it is important to incorporate a variety of mediums for students to engage with in a course
I have learned that consistency with the structure of the courses is very important for the students to complete their assignments
Understanding how to store, organize and retrieve learning objectives efficiently. The database links objectives with the course syllabi, lesson plans, exams and quizzes ensuring curriculum alignment.
This course has helped me understand the importance of creating consistent modules and databases that will be beneficial to students in the online setting and the program as a whole
It is important to keep in mind different learning styles of students.
