While I do agree with the majority of the module, I disagree with the idea that synchronous discussions should not be used to teach critical information. In the settings that I’ve used online learning so far, I’ve had to use synchronous discusssions or chats for this purpose.  Most of the time, it has been the setting of presenting our class power point presentations. While it does take a little more on my part as an instructor to make sure everyone stays engaged and involved, I find it useful to present a large amount of information in an interactive way that, in the end, feels a little more like a real-time class environment.

I have learned that, the open discussion I have been using, at the beginning of class is the appropriate way to have student's express themselves.  It is also a time where student's can discuss what they learned from the previous class.

The structure of the class chat sessions, the administration, and the follow up will be critical to ensure the appropriate learning environment is established.  The daily administration of the course in conjunction with the instructor's involvement/control/follow-up will ultimately determine the success of the online program.

Asynchronous and synchronous

Asynchronous and synchronous

i think that trust and understanding your students comprehension and needs is absolutey more important.

I thought that this was going to be your typical boring education on education topic, but it is actually providing useful information.

Adding discussion questions will make the online learning better.  Also, consider the different types of learners and what they might need to learn.

How to address students depending on the class size.

During this Covid-19 lock down, my district has put huge emphasis on doing synchronous classes with large groups - just the opposite of what's suggested here.

Feedback in a timely manner is so very important in online settings.  The student must know how they are doing and the teacher must provide that input both positive and negative with ways to improve to the student.  Email is a great way to do this.

I know the differernce between asynchronize and synchronize discussions and how to be utilized for e-learning. Asynchronize discussion is the preffered method for all students to participate. Students who have learning styles of avoident, dependant and competetive can all benefit from asynchoronice discussion. If synchronized discussion is used some things to consider is to restrict the total time for core chat session to a maximum of 30 minutes, allot time for socializing, and address learners by their preffered name.

Feedback should be provided in a timely manner without using damaging criticism but more encouraging wording.

I have learned that personalized feedback is very important to the responses of all learners.

I learned about the importance of asynchronous and synchronous discussions in an online class and when to use them.

I am motivated to start a post forum to encourage students' participation. The CMS that we currently use does not offer one.

I learned the importance and benefits of asynchronous discussions.  I think they can be beneficial whether online or in the classroom to reinforce the subject matter, foster critical thinking and create greater involvement into subjects being studied.

Develop learning opportunities in both synchonous and asynchorous settings. Provide for the opportunity alowing students to ask questions and receive responses both in a group and individual methodology. Treat each student with respect and protect their sense of integrity.

Provide good advice and encourage participation, confidence and motivation to all students.
