About me

I've worn several hats over the years, usually tied to education.. librarian, teacher, instructor... I've found I enjoy most any age group and what they bring to the table..  I love to travel and hope to do more of it after Covid-19...  I'm pianist and choir director at a small local church and do enjoy it.   I was active in community theatre for years... usually as the musician.. and I do miss it..

Interests

reader, pianist, singer, traveler, photographer, librarian

Skills

music, variety of technology, organizer, and can do nifty bulletin boards..

Activity

In the past, I have served as a facilitator and enjoy this role of guiding students, but having them explore on their own.

In thinking about my own program.. I feel asychronous is the preferred method with a synchronous meeting a couple times of day to check in... will have to continue to think about this process.

Finding the right balance of technology, from the instructor's use, the student needs and accessibility, and the purpose of said technology is key to putting together the best program with positive outcomes.

Rubrics can be very helpful... I like the self-assessment rubric idea...

Detailed syllabus, effective communication techniques, varied types of student interaction and using scaffolding to keep momentum and learning moving forward.

In developing an online course, deisgn is very important to create a sense of consistency.  I am currently teaching a course using a blended learning approach and the online design is fairly good in this sense (designed by another source), but I did note some of the modulde vary greatly in the time it takes to complete.  So, it does affect how students complete them.

This area takes organization and diplomacy.  Working with students remotely can be a challenge when it's not face to face.

It's important to know a little about each student's learning style to help with discussion.  Important to know the limits of synchronous  meetings.

I like the biographical information at the outset for teacher and students.  Giving clear expectations and providing educational experience give students confindence in the instructor and the class.
