There are pros and cons of asynchronous and synchronous learning methods and the better the teacher is in knowing these methods and recognizing it in real time benefits the learners in the end, creating a better learning environment.
Knowing the difference between synchronous and asynchronous was important, but more importantly knowing WHY aynchronous was recommended was insightful to me. Using the students preferred name in the response is important. It makes the students feel valued and that they teacher cares.

I learned that in an online forum it is more beneficial to have asynchronous discussions because more students are able to participate and express their opinions. I love the idea of giving a conversation prompt to begin an asynchronous discussion in my class as I feel it will give students who are apprehensive or take longer to process information time to reflect and really think about what they want to say before they post.
Instructors should make sure that feedbacks should be worded in a way to encourage participation, confidence, and motivation.
The most interesting thing for me from this module is the learning styles. Because my students are immigrants learning English, I find that many of my students fall into the Dependent Student learning style which I believe to be partially cultural. I would like to learn more about this to help them be less dependent.
Asynchronous and Synchronous discussions are important in student participation. Feedback should be provided to students in a positive approach to enlighten learning and provide corrections for submitted assignments.
Remember all your students have different learning styles. Know your students and the best way to teach them and communicate with them effectively
I intend to find creative ways to incorporate more asynchronous discussions in my classes. I will continue providing feedback and will allow more discussion at the beginning of my online meetings.
I learned the difference between Asynchronous & Synchronous discussions.
Synchronous and asynchronus meetings both have their benifits and drawbacks. i can see how it could be challenging for slow typers, or even those with slow/limited internet access. when it comes to whole class discussions asynchronus chats seem to be the best choice for students. However i think synchronous chats could be benificial for meeting with small groups for projects or group presentations.
I learned about synchronous and asynchronous meetings and the importance of both in order to engage students.
I learned how to encourage participation in the different types of discussion formats. I also learned how to recognize some of the different on line learning styles. I will use the information to assist me in structuring discussion forums in ways that are appropriate for the learning goals and to interact with my students with relevant feedback that encourages their ongoing participation.
I truly like the content in this segment. Keeping the students engaged in synchronous diaglog can be challenging. Typically you know which students will respond to the discussions in the chat and those who just sit quietly in the dark. What I find helpful with one particular class is calling for each student to provide feedback to the discussion, then one that feedback is given, then I petition for other students to comment and ask questions which then pulls the quiet discusser (if I may make up that word...lol) out of their shell urging them to interact more.

If you look at marketing stategies that a in place online i.e.(Amozon, netflix, etc.) providing feedback is the staple to the success of companies understanding the wants and needs of the consumer. Feedback is vital to deliver content to students for them to be successful once they have successfully completed the course, training etc.. Keeping them engaged in course content can be difficult but, by providing feedback you get to know the students at a personal level, it also allows them to see that you as the instructor is making every effort to provide them with the best education possible.
I'm surprised to see that the course doesn't encourage synchronous discussions. That may be the most challenging part of online teaching for me. I wish I understood why this is not the recommended method.
