Incorporating Technology in the classroom

Ultimatley a well compiled lesson plan contributes to you becoming a more efficient instructor and creating a positive learning enviroment.

lesson planning

It is important to allow time at the beginning and at the end of the class to allow for questions at the beginning and a review at the end of class. because there might not be questions on a topic it is important ot be able to stimulate questions. The class will like it if the class finishes early but they still need to see the value of the time spent in class so finishing too early will always alienate some of the class as they will feel short changed.

Test Review

Test anxiety runs high when a test is approaching. I like to give a test review the day before the test. Most of the time students are surprised at how much information they have actually retained. Following up with words of encouragement helps as well.

Different Learning Styles

It is important to remember students have different learning styles. By keeping this in mind you are able to get the focus and concentration needed from every student to help them be successful.

Creating and implementing Soft Skills within the classroom

I am an Instructor for a healthcare related career college. Creating soft skils, and being able to implement them in the healthcare field are vital. We as healhcare providers must exhibit exemplary hygiene, and project a constant sense of professionalism in regard to our patient interaction. As an Instructor, I attempt to instill within my student a need to achieve these skills, so they may also lead by example for fellow healthcare workers, and their own patients.

extra credit

I feel that extra credit should be given to help students who are really trying to learn the subject matter, and are having minor difficulties with it.

creating an evaluation system that works

I frequently give open book or open teacher exams. I start discussions that carry throughout the class on given topics these are a little difficult to control because they can vere off onto other topics and must be steered in the right direction. However I have found that the class is more receptive to rote memory during open discussion.

prep and organization

You must be completely prepared, if you are prepared with the lecture, you will be organized enought to go throught with your class.

Troubleshooting Instructional Strategies

What works well for one student may not work well for another. so I tend to try to explain each subject from different aproaches so that I can encompass more of the learning styles of my students.
