Field Trips

I think field trips are a GREAT way to connect the course information with real life work experiences. Also including time for Q&A with a couple of employees of different status helps connect the experience and even motivate the students to want to excel at their studies.

use different methods

to be effective instructors need to use different meyhods of learning.

class management

you need preparation to manage the class. this course definitely will help anybody to do that.

Which is more important for you to know?

So do you think it is more important to know the college's mission statement or to know the colleges objectives for the students? Usually they have both, but which do you think is more important to really base your instruction off of?

Adapting

The education process includes and adaptation process for the instructor as well as the students. As an instructor we should be able to adapt to the students learning styles as well as keeping a professional demeanor during the time when the students need to make the grade when he has been absent.

Understanding

An instructor must first understand his/her students before he/she can develop their training. This will allow the students to understand the instructor and the material more thorough.

Test anxiety

"I swear I studied hard for this test, but when I received the test paper, my mind went blank!" Sound familiar? To most students, announcing an upcoming test is more likely to cause them to panic than when one yells, "Fire!" Test anxiety is common; even we instructors still experience it. I tell my students that the first thing that they should do is to acknowledge that they have it, and that it is a natural response. What's important is for them to control it; otherwise, it will control them. To some students, this advice is helpful; but others just refuse to do something about it. I wish I could do more to help my anxious students. Your tips or suggestions will be very helpful.

Pretests and Post-tests

Pretests evaluate the knowledge one has from prior experience and/or courses while a post test should be Pass/Fail. What do you think?

Pretests

Gauging where a student's ability is in a given subject matter is harding than you think due to the student's inaccurate self-evaluation. I find it easier to Pop Quiz them in which some count towards their grade and some do not. They never know which ones count though.

Different media

What do you do when you are not comfortable with the newer medias around today?

Time management for instructors

Being an effective instructor means to being able to constructively use your time wisely. What do you think?

our goal in educating

Prepare more than enough material. It might flow easily and better than expected to students who grasp the content and clear understanding of the subject.

Running out of time

I found myself in this position before. Im presenting material and run out of time or run out of material. In some cases i'll have an assignment and other cases I wouldn't and the students are sitting in class not doing anything. Any suggestion that would help so that i'm not handing the students assignments after assignments or just not doing anything.

Hands-on And visual

I know some students are more hands on and others are more visual. I try to incorporate both of theses methods in my classroom and I have a real positive outcome, But i would like to do more to the students more involved any suggestions or just stick with what im doing.

Classroom

An instructors classroopm is like his stage. With a good performance your audience will follow you through your training event.

Communication

Understanding your student's goals in their chosen industry will help guide you to their personal training needs.

Managing a Valuable Resource

Time is the main constraint that I've seen. It is a great thing when there is plenty of it - and there is. Another good thing is when you start a lecture and the next minute (not literally) you turn around and time has run out. This is often the sign of a great lecture, one in which the students were all actively engaged, learning, contributing, and having fun. You know what they say, time flies when you are having fun! But the management of this time is where the art and creativity must kick in on behalf of the instructor. If an instructor is a procrastinator or a last-minute type of person, what is the relationship with that and their true ability to manage time in the classroom?

our goal in educating

It is a combination of many aspects....awareness,knowledge,skill, confidence and relationships.

Using Smart Boards

What about using smart boards in the classroom. I did not see any topics on using these in the classroom. Tom

Can you tell me what my grade in the class is so far?

Students will ask this question many times during the course therefore grading papers and exams as soon as possible is necessary to provide students with the right feedback. Electronic posting of grades helps to reduce this type of questions. What ways you use to provide student performance status in your class?
