Power point and hands on tools

Thinking back at how my instructors taught, I really enjoyed hands on activities. I found these most interesting, and because of the repetition, I was able to develop the skill being taught. Today, Power Point gives the instructor the ability to make lectures more interesting through the use of slides and I feel is helpful in keeping the students of today more engaged.

Plan B

Most of us do not have plan B when we go to our classrooms. But I beive it is very essential.

Powepoint Presentation

main idea of preparing pointpower is to help students to understand better and give them break down the most important point of the subject.

Field trip

I strongly belive field trip is very helpful for our students to understand better how to implement their knowledge in to the real world.

Grading

in order to be fair to the students we have to very carefull when it comes grading. as we know there are many different types of students we have each one has a different personality and learning ability but the common goal is to be successful. We do accept sometimes the fact what students go thgrouh out their life and learn to connect them some wat to understand them better every efford we do for them will affect their ability to learn and will give them better opportunity improve their grades if needed.

School policy

My school has a crystal clear "no extra credit" policy. Students still come to me to ask for extra credit and I quote the policy. The student gives me some kind of attitude or an eyeroll. Later I find out other teachers are giving extra credit. To put it bluntly, this sucks.

Test Taking

This can be a very hard time for students so being able to help them in their time of need is key.

Having a back up plan

This is very important because students always want to know what's next.

Teaching with a Power Point presentation

I believe that this canbe beneficial depending on the course you are teaching, but it is important to know that there are other options available.

Establish new and exciting field trips!

I love the idea of being able to take your students on field trips. I think most of the time Instructors don't realize that they have that option.

Hands on.

As much as I agree that visual and hearing are huge in the learning process, Being able to do hands on (feel) is a very helpful tool in having the student learn. Working in the field of audio I have noticed that as the students learn the theory and are able to visually see presentations and video's of how things are done, actually being Hands on and doing it themselves helps tremendously in the learning process.

Starting with the syllabus

I find it helpful to create a syllabus that outlines what is going to be done every week as far as discussions, in-class, lab and homework. I also write this on the board before the student arrives to remind them.

Makeup exams

I agree. When a student misses an exam and has to make it up. I either give a different version or make it an essay test. This alleviates the worry of possible cheating.

Student needs

Since students learn at different levels, it is important for instructors to realize this and set aside some time either in the class or after to work individually with certain students who have problems retaining information or who are trying to keep up.

Visuals

Over the course of teaching the past 11 years, I feel that visuals are extremely effective for learning. They help in retention of information and allows the instructor to repeat by "showing" how things are done.

Repetition

Depending on various degrees of learning in the classroom, I usually show a demonstration and later work one-on-one with students who are still struggling.

keeping students inspired

I teach at an audio engineering school By bringing the students on a field trip, I saw a noticeable improvement in their interest levels the very next day!

Adding Old fashion media

One media I like using is large photos on foam-board. It is visual, adds dimension to those that are tactile and less like a video screen (TV image) that is more common. It adds flexibility to the delivery of material that may need a more detailed focus.

Retests

When a class as a whole does not do as well as expected on a test, I give a retest. The retest is shorter and easier than the original test because I simply modify some of the material that was in the original test. I then average the two grades to get the students' grade for that test. If a student gets a 60% on the first test, and a 100% on the second test, his/her grade for that test would be 80%. If a student gets a worse grade on the retest than on the first test, then the retest is not counted. There is no penalty for taking a retest. Retests are optional, and all students are eligible. I have had students who got a 96% on the first test choose to take a retest, and students who got a 40% on the first test choose not to take a retest In this way, students who did well on the first test still do better than the others who did not do so well.

Make up test

Missed test should be made up within two days of returning to school after reasonable excused absent. When ever test was missed for nonexcused absent, makeup test will lose 10 points per day, and after 3 days can not be made up. Test should always be different and close attention to simlar questions should be checked. Attendance should be checked since usual school accredication checks this very close. Attendance is the number 1 reason people are let go from employment.
