Challenges

One of the things I am concerned about is being able to reach the student who may never come to class.  The only thing that I Know works is trying different strategies no matter what.  Keep being consistent.

Future of Learning

With the current healthcare concerns, teaching/instructing has taken a new course. Classroom versus online. Online is showing that students like it more and don't have to attend a real classroom. Fear of the unknown. Now they learn online and only need to attend a classroom for clinicals.

Trying to make a plan

I took this class as proactive to what is happening in the world today.  I don't know if there will be classes in school or we will be expected to teach on line.  This course I felt was geared more toward the older student than the primary grades.  I know it is important plan my instruction but to do that for such young students will be a challenge.  I will rise to the challenge and make it work if need be.  I will use google classroom as my platform and aligen the work as my district expects.

Guide on the Side

This is the best way to describe true facilitation in the online/blended classroom.  Career & Technical Education is all about project based learning with the instructor as the facilitator/guide on the side to the students as they work through the project, using critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Developing the learning modules via the course competencies will provide an organized virtural learning environment for the students.  By communicating and connecting with the students to create a safe and collaborative environment, student engagement and success should be achieved.

Problem solving

With the challenges of today, I am a firm believer that problem solving, hands-on, and manual dexterity could be boone for those entering the job market.

There will be challenges. Pace yourself

There will be challenges. Recognize those challenges (with the biggest being lack of face 2 face contact with students) and identify specific strategies to overcome the challenges. There are a number of online delivery models. Two given were ADDIE and Gagnes which give the events of instructions. In other words, how will instruction flow, start to finish with each lesson. These model of delivery help with developing a good course, maximizes learning impact and minimizes the workload. as with all teachers, careful not to burnout. Pace yourself, draw the line between personal and work.  The following link, good article: "Best… >>>

Participation Grade

I have recently started sharing a fun personal photo such as "What I'm doing during lockdown" and then asking my students to do the same. I give them participation points for completing it and it adds a nice personal touch as well as a little fun to the week.

Communication is Key

Whether face to face or screen to screen, you have to communicate well with your students in all forms of content, virtual locations, and individual connections.  This communication is the building block for the positive relationships that you will create as the teacher with the students so they will stay engaged in the virtual platform.

Becoming a Educator

The most important fact that I've learned from taking these coureses, is that a person that has five or more years in the construction feild may not qualify them to teach!

After twenty years in the feild as a electrican / HVAC mechanic with ten years of adult continuing education, I enrolled in Community College at the age of fifty-nine to pursue a teaching career.

I've now been teaching for three years and these coureses are preparing me to transistion from a classroom Instructor to a online facilitator.

Thanks.

Authoring

When authoring the course and creating the module template, consistancy is key - just like assignments you create to give face to face or handouts you pass to students and parents, you should be consistant in the look and feel of the "product" - think about the logo of a company or a company slogan - it identifies the company/product.  What we create for our students should do the same thing - the look and feel of our modules should identify our course and our persona as well.

Online Learning

I want to say that I have been teaching for nearly 20 years in the traditonal way, being thrown into the online teaching process has been a challenge not only for myself but fot the students. The things that I have laearned so far have been very helpful and I anm glad for the training. The problem I see is for the students. I feel that they should be given some online training on how the online process can be successful for them as well as for the instructor. Many do not understand this concept and this is why they came… >>>

LOVE THE COUSRE

Information is helpful

staying contacted

Online course or e-learning is another way to stay connect with your students, especially in a pandemic.  Being sure you have a good platform and respond back to students in a timely manner

Presence

The biggest thing I took away from this course is to assert your presence, but in a friendly and supportive manner.  Do video presentations, video chats, live chats and discussion forums.   Most of all give feedback through email and stay VERY ORGANIZED!

Future Plan

Since I currently have no classroom and have been subbing the past 9 years I hope to implement things from this course in the near future.  I have taken a few on line courses and appreciate feedback in a timely matter.  I know that first after understanding and familiarizing myself with the course andplatform, I would want to get to know my students.  I would prepare my bio and in turn ask for theirs.  I need to knowt how I would record and keep all communications with students.  Always following the guidelines of the institution I am working for.  My… >>>

Timely and Meaningful Feedback

It is quite evident that learners appreciate timely and meaningful feedback. I have noticed that learners provide extensive and comprehensive responses when submitting future asssignments. Additionally, students rely (trust) our content-area wisdom and guidance to assist them into the development of their 'next steps' of success.

The payoff is watching their response positively evolve whereby the communication exchange becomes more meaningful, along with productive assignments; and, a more involved learner.

Action Plan

I like the idea of using a video to introduce myself.  I am also thinking about encouraging students to upload videos to introduce themselves, but I need to set boundaries or provide students with specific questions to answer.

online learning

i think online learning is important  so  i canreach many people at one time

success

no matter the enviironment the successful instructor must participate, guide, present guidelines, and give constructive feedback in a TIMELY manner

what I did learn from this class

As an online instructor, I learned Why is it important to assess technology tools, Why is it important to match  the technology tool to its appropriate function
