what I did learn from this class

As an online instructor, I learned Why is it important to assess technology tools, Why is it important to match  the technology tool to its appropriate function

Challenges

Being thrown into online learning has not been easy.  As a dual language kindergarten teacher, I had to figure out how to help my students maintain and continue to learn Spanish but I had to face the reality that many of my students would not retain the Spanish they had aquired.  I have done my best to provide recordings of Spanish lessons and encourage my students to continue to practice their Spanish but becasue this are 5 and 6 year olds it is ultimately up to their parents to continue to help them learn and build a strong foundation in… >>>

Online Teaching Techniques

Making sure I understand the CMS system.  How to Influnce, persuade, inspire and energize my students as if they were in a classroom.  How to make my presences known in the online setting. Show my qualifications.  Sent messages to my students.  Know the different learning styles and how to deal with them.  How we handle communication with our students.  Keep folders for each student make sure in email to use subject line.

Survey Response-40 students vs 100+ teachers.

I have been holding a weekly meeting with welding instructors to talk about our challenges for teaching online. I have had about 120 total emails that are on the email group and up to 55 people join a meeting.

After the meeting on the 29th of April, I sent out an email requesting the complete a google form survey.

Here are the results from the instructors- 18 Total responses as of this writing. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1t-mKVcjI3WG5yvgMMVWMWpvF5d1KDrr1c48ZZkN6A6Q/viewanalytics

Student Retention and Interaction

Having taught classrooms of healthcare professionals, I feel it is necessary to find a way to relate to each individual student not only at the level of learning or expertise they've experienced, but also through personality and behavioral traits as well. These individuals will be taking care of the general population and I want them to be personable, confident, and skilled in their care giving.

This is hard to do sometimes in the e-learning environment because you do not see their daily behavior and how they physically interact with others. They have to remain dedicated to the subject at… >>>

To be or not to be on screen!

Online learning is a challenge for me in the aspect of showing myself to the students.  I like to think of myself as an instructor slash entertainer in the face to face classroom.  I don't seem to pull that off very well in the recorded lesson/lecture for student viewing.  I have never been comfortable in front of a camera however I have learned how to instruct by IVC-Interactive Video Broadcasting.

The COVID-19 instruction of prepared video instruction was difficult for me.  I found myself going to fast or not interjecting enough question for thought processing.  I did find it much… >>>

A student-centered approach

It is crucial for us teachers to remember that we must use multiple sources of data that are appropriate for our students. We must use multiple methods that integrate qualitative and quantitative data. Some of these are course grades, syllabus sca, portfolios, question tools, pretest, posttest, among many others. This is in order to close the lop of teaching online and how it should alwayts be a student-centered approach.

Future of Teaching

It looks as if it is going to be a long time till we go back to our classrooms. Meanwhile, we cannot let our students fall back in their education. This course has helped to create my new path for online teaching. I definetly suggest that all teachers who plan to go online should take this course. Very special training.

Student Centered Approach

Online learning for the student is a well rounded approach because our students were born in this computer age.  Student are very knowledgable with all types of comuputer knowledge. The students are wiser to computers but weaker to common sence knowledge.  They are so geard into the computer but  they don't have the common sense to put it down so they can relate and communicate in their surroundings.  Their computer knowledge is good because they help teach the Baby Boomers who relate by doing everything by hand.  So the phrase turns around that we are wise in common sense but… >>>

Future of Teaching

It will take a long time for us to go back to teaching in classrooms. Meanwhile, we should be prepared to help our students on-line using CMS (Course Management System).
