Being consistent with the coarse layout really helps the students.
How to transition from F2F to online, want to make it interactive and welcoming, however, not overwhelming. It takes time to transition and content should be validated prior to execution to ensure it it effective.
Online learning is not the same as face to face. Organization of content, student engagement and assessment strategies are not the same. The instructor needs to make sure all these are clear and provide a good framework for a successful outcome for the student
Consistency in course layout is key
giving feedback is so imporant
Hello Team,
What I have learned in this module F2F, the online material should be suited for both the environment and for online learning. That we may need to modify the course content from time to time to better prepare students for a brighter pathway.
Going from F2F to fully online is a change for students that are used to that F2F time. Covid made things change quickly for some, however, I am thankful for that change because it has shown me that online learning is effective and can be a wonderful option for students who are working while going to school.
What was important in this section is understanding that moving content to an online environment is not simply about transfering content, it needs to be transformed. When doing this we need to consider 4 O's of course design:
1. Origin
2. Organization
3. Orchestration
4. Outcomes assessment
Student engagement from the beginning is critical. Reaching out at the beginning of the course with a welcome message can go a long way in engaging a student.
Using a variety of methods to retain engagment of students is especially important in an online environment. I will plan technological strategies to augment my teaching style and ensure maximum engagement from the student experience
If transferring from F2F to online or the reverse, it may be easier to just create a whole new coursse.
Let your personality shine through, but don't give too much personal information away.
I will be consistent with the layout of my course material so it is easier for students to locate the course materials throughout the class.
Utilize different techniques to keep the students engaged, while keeping the course organized.
I am all about student engagement, the number of years that I have been teaching helped me to learn that engagement gets better evaluation scores and happier student learners. I certainly agree with the module lessons that emphasize "Good facilitation techniques suggest that multiple strategies should be used to engage students."
I do lots of preofessional development and peer mentoring to find techniques that will work and help my courses.
Instructors should use diverse methods to support learner engagement.
Providing a clear path through objectives, modules, and discussions will help students successfully pass the course. Make your content engaging for your students to keep them interested in the learning materials.
Since I teach lab courses, when the pandemic hit its zenith it was particularly difficult shifting to an online format. Having class synchronously via webcams helped maintain a level of normalcy, and ended up doing a lot of what the article reccomended and incorporating relevant details, concepts and work to keep students morale and learning momentum going.
What is best for the student is what shall be done. Ensure that they are actually learning the content you are teaching.
How you organize your online course has a significant impact on student success.
There are many important factors but the organization of the course allows the students to be comfortable and successful. Facilitator must be flexible.
