This lesson reinforces the need to be prepared.  Preparation in the mechanics of the course being delivered is just as important as the contents.  Being able to proactively address common issues, and respond to individual issues quickly as they arise can go a long way to facilitating learning.   Students should place their intellectual energy towards learning the material, not navigating and problem solving the system.

I found it helpful to have a list of things that you as the instructor should be familiar with before starting the course.

As an online instructor, I know how difficult it is to sit through a lecture so I will do everything in my power to enhance learning.

Asynchronous discussions work well with the schedule of my e-learner nursing students. Discussions are well participated and very productive compared to what is happening in the classroom setting.

I have learned that instructors need to take time to get familiar with the course content, delivery methods, CMS, school policies, and best ways to keep students actively engage in teh content as well as getting them all the support that is needed.

Much of this is the same as in the classroom, the basic prep is the same.

Instructors now need to know more of the management of how a class works. Gone are the days of focusing solely on content delivery.

Understanding the platform being used, communication with students and keeping them focused in key.

Our on-line courses came suddenly thanks to concerns dealing with virus transmission.  While delivery was capable, we didn't always make some requirements clear--such as how to address retakes (number and due dates), required discussions (chat sessions), and posting a summary after every module (goals should have been posted more completely as well).  So far these shortcomings have been clearly identified....

I learned that being familiar with the Course is very important, its not about how much knowledge but how you share it with the students, being able to navigate and familiarize myself with the platform and course content will be very helpful when addressing a question or doubts from the students.  There are different ways to keep the students engaged and interested in the different material being covered.

Online faculty has a lot of responsibility to students in teaching the course and needs mastery of the CMS

I noted the reasons students can become frustrated with online/remote learning.

In order for students to be successful in online learning, instuctors and students must both have an understanding of online platforms being used and how to effectively communicate information and resources.

I will be sure to be confident in the technology involved before I try to deliver content

It emphasized for me that synchronous and a-synchronous teaching might require a good deal of thought on when/how I can interact with students vs letting students work by themselves to go through course materials

It is important to be there for students learning topics but also trouble shoot technical difficulties so they don't give up and quit the courses.

I will absolutely take the time to find out what my students needs are ,so I can help them be a successful learner.

I have learned that as a teacher, you must know and understand how to navigate your online classroom. It is important to understand the ins and outs of your online classroom so you can be comfortable and knowledgeable to teach your students.

I learned so far that I need to get more familiar with the support structure of the CMS to be better able to offer support to students. I should offer an online tutorial or I also need to take the time to get familiar with the navigation of the CMS prior to diving into the course content.

I need to do some homework on how my school's LMS platform works. I have only learned what I need to get by. They offer tutorials I just need to study them.
