About me

A proud third-generation teacher and 16th year of teaching Family and Consumer Science. My passion is helping students discover the skills they have to make their life easier, foster, and/or improve their family relationships or find a passion that becomes a hobby or a career later in adulthood. Working with my Career and Technical Student Organization (FCCLA) completes my love of helping, working with students. It is through this lens do I get the opportunity to show students how to develop and hone in on their leadership skills and push them outside their box.

Activity

Take the time to gain more knowledge and sills, manage your workload, and plan ahead to provide for necessary course revisions. And every 3-5 weeks should ask the STOP, START & CONTINUE questions.

Online learners depend on that feedback to reassure them, build them, and use it as a check. It is important to be present in the learning community give feedback and develop relationships.

Be disciplined with your time!!!

To create an effective work schedule, should schedule a time for checking email, grading papers, providing feedback, and discussion boards. Organization is key to managing the workload of an online class.

The table of "Principles for the Instructor Teaching for Success" and " Expectation for the Students Being Responsible for Success" was an excellent visual to understand the best practices.

It's crucial to be sure all students have the ability to access the technology required for online success and understanding the resources and capabilities available for online student learning and choosing the best ones.

Effective communication is necessary in building a good learning environment and to motivates learners.

Time management is very important with an online course as it takes additional time to complete as compared to a F2F class. Also, it is important to know the needs of the students and what accommodations are needed for students.

I found the "guide on the side" points to be beneficial. To remember that teaching online has some very different techniques vs. F2F teaching. Also, about how to build the online community.

The best guide in having an effective communication process, keeping students engaged, and having a positive online community is to be an example of how you want your students to act and how to speak to each other.
