I liked the quadrant test or thumbs test to determine the important information on a resume. Taking out some design elements, like bulleted columns, is a great way to have resume scanning software pick up more parts of resume. 

I learned that the design of the resume is important and also the type of resume needs to be specific to the graduate. When doing workshops I will be able to implement the rule of thumb check, and make sure students unberstand the quadrant setup on a resume.

 

I feel like I need to brush up my own resume. Great tips and pointers to share with students.

 

This job search information needs to reflect the trends of a more remote working environment as reflected in the era of a pandemic, so students, career changers and those “outplaced”  offer a competitive set of tools. 

 

Right now i wanna share with you some advice how to find the best remote job you can.
All of us here are great specialists in some niche but right now market is full of people looking for a job.
So my advice is to check some new place which will help you and me get some great money.

which for sure got a great future and you will hear about it but just don't be very late for the move!

I learned that the resume, as it is being taught here, is not viable formats for the construction trades, skilled workers, etc... The formatting is more appropriate for those applying to coroporate positions, technology positions, office type jobs.  The construction trades want job experience listed and this list is usually quite long, want references listed, and want specific skills as they apply to the type of construction job being applied for. 

Good information and good practices.

 

Layout matters and there are 3 basic formats. Also, the things that should be avoided on a resume. Lastly, that the recruiter does not spend a lot of time on the resume so you need to make your inforamtion count.  

Format is very important since recruiters spend 6-30 seconds to review resumes.

Great and excellent tips and pointers to share with students.

 

To treat the resume document as a quartered piece by placing most important info, i.e. skills, certifications, and education in quarter 1 or left hand top corner, and work experience in bottom left corner.  This helps the interviewer to know quickly what skills and certifications the candidate has relevant to the position immediately.

 

I learned that the resume should be formatted in a way that is specific tp the job desired and so that employers can parse the document easily.  I like the way the resume should be sectioned in a manner that information is placed in sections divided to help the person conducting the interview peruse it easily.

I learned that you should match the style of the resume to the position and the experience of the candidate. 

 

I learned how important the layout of the resume is. For example the most important information should be in quadrants one and two and also about the rule of thumb. 

I think as professionals, some tasks become second nature and we maybe don't always take the time to fully explain every step because it's so obvious to us. This module was a good reminder to me to take a step back and make sure I'm explaining the why as we work through the resume. I also liked the section about layout, especially the quadrant techniques and the thumb test. Also, I plan to use the 6 second scan with their peers.  

It reassures my student resume advice. For the most part I have been using these techniques when advising students and the example I give them to follow.

I am able to support students through my previous understanding of resume building but I have gained a better understanding of the information presented. I think I'll be able to convey the information more accurately.  

 

I learned about the quadrant rule and where to put the most inportant information. Students should also not use 1st person and should not include hobbies or extracurricular activities unless absolutely necessary.

 

Reviewing keywords and ideal formatting/layout was very helpful in determining what information should be passed on to students to increase their success. 

I like the idea of teaching our students about the employers’s point of view on what they would want to see on a resume. It’s a good way to help students focus on adding only what information is needed for the specific job.
