I was not aware that the different styles of resumes serve a purpose. Since many of our students are inexperienced, it is good to know which style they should use.  It is also good to know other headings they can add to the resume when they are lacking experience.  

I learned about the quadrant rule and where to put the most inportant information. Students should also not use 1st person and should not include hobbies or extracurricular activities unless absolutely necessary.

It is important to maintin the 5 keys to success like being dependable and being a member of the team. Calling out alot or engaging in gossip will not help you in your job. Being able to take criticism is also important.

I learned that preparing and practicing for the interview is very important.  Clothes need to be prepared ahead of time and washed and ironed.  Practicing with mock interviews is very important to practice your tone, body language and projections. It is also important to have a response to explain anything negative.  

I learned that researching the company first and making the cover letter specific to both the company and the job posting is important.  Each job that someone applies to should have a specific cover letter.  Since this is the first impression the employer has, proofreading and grammar are extremely important as is using fonts that are easy to read.

I learned that there are many other ways to research and find availab;e jobs besides the "traditional" want ads. Nowadays, people can find jobs on social media. Also, I learned that many jobs are not event posted and that reaching out to potential employeers (by email is preferred) can help lead to a job.
