I am glad I am going through this before we select an online learning tool. This brought up a lot of good points on looking at availability of the material to the students, timing of lessons and assessments and many other things.
I learned the importance of being familar with the learning platform so that you can be supportive and assist the learners in both academic and technical formats. You should have an easy to navigate platform and structure such as the use of modules and lessons. As an instructor you should be clear about the course expectations such as how students will navigate the course and communicate those expectations clearly.
In an E-learning environment, it's important for a teacher to know and understand the platform in order to be effective.
It is important to know the platform in which content will be delivered. When you know the content then you have the tools to work with. Students also feel more confident in their learning when they know someone is out there to help them with not only content, but the platform. Students are more likely to be successful when they view that someone is there with them. I will work to encourage my students and let them know I am here to help them be successful.
Instruction on how to teach oniline learning for different learning levels. I am a new CTE teacher with little computer skills so I'm hoping this will give me the understanding I need to teach online
The most common structure for a course is a format that I already utilize, the course, module, lesson, format works best for me and my brain to organize my class.
Understanding the CMS, and course structure are tantamount to success in online learning. Instructional strategies will vary by teacher. Engagement by students is vital as well as familiarity in using online techniques.
I feel that structure and student's knowledge of the structure is a key point. Most students do not like the unexpected and allowing them to know the flow of your instruction will make the learning more pleasurable. I am going to try post the structure and timeline from the start.
To ensure that your course is well designed you have to first comprehend the course content and all the various types of delivery for that content. I will use this in my couse by first spending ample time compreheding all the tools abailable to me and making informed decesions on technology to use in my course.
Timely orientation is essential to students' success in the E-learning environment.
I need to make sure the content is in a logical sequence and the directions are clear and precise of what is expected.
Learners will likely be more engaged when they have perceived support for both content and technical issues. As an instructor, I can test out the CMS to see how it works on various devices, post instructions on expectations and helps, check back with learners frequently, and make sure our main methods of communication are working.
Ensure that the students as well as the instructor are familiar with the online learning platform. The instructor needs to familiar with managing the course, that is, the class roster, assignments, etc. Resources should be available to the students as they progress through the course and they need to be aware of how they will be evaluated.
It is important to establish absystem to provide students with feedback. Student may become discourage, or stop working on assignments if they feel they are not being supported.
I have learned that it is important to have considered all aspects of the course before you begin such as assignments, due dates, can they retake quizzes and test, time frame for taking quizees and test, etc.
Also since students often feel more comfortable in this format it may open up better and broader discussuons.
I've learned there are many different forms of support and learning modes to maximize the educational experience.
As an online instructor, there are many ways to deliver content to students. It is important for the instructor to be aware of how to deliver the material that is required for each unqiue program or insitution.
I would make sure I am familiar with the course delivery techniques and strategies for e-learning. I need to make sure I can manage the learning environment. I will also make sure I provide constant feedback to my students to help them to feel engaged and supported.
Familiarize yourself with the course delivery techniques and strategies
Your ability to manage the learning environment and each learner's learning experiences, and to provide informative and constructive feedback in a timely manner, is of prime importance to your success as an online instructor.
I did not know that these types of online classes had an abbreviation/term for them, CMS, I had not heard of this particular phrase before. I was reminded that online learning is much more effective for students to willingly participate when they know that their teacher is consistently monitoring the questions/problems that may arise. It is a much more pleasant experience for all involved when there are timely responses. As a substitute teacher, if my classroom assignments this year require online assignments, I will be sure to tell students the time frame of which I am available, and stick closely to these times to always be available to help. I will be certain to review assignments to make sure they work/can be submitted before I ask students to complete the assignment for themselves.
Reply to Remi Oluyi's post:When e-learners face some issues they get very easily frustrated and the instructor should be well equiped to meet the students' demands on the subject.
