An internship provides experience for the students and helps them become comfortable in the role

The internship provides students the opportunity to practice the importance of professionalism, adaptability, and experimental growth.

Throughout the internship, the intern should be provided with a variety of experiences in order to expose him or her to as many aspects of the organization as possible. This will not only provide the intern with a breadth of experiences, but also help determine the role to which he or she is best suited, should the organization decide to offer full-time employment.

I expect most students seek guidance on the sop of a company, but take comfort knowing their specialized skills will develop in a professional atmosphere.  Networking and career path development was the furthest thing on my mind when I was in school.

internship provides examples of responsibility, punctuality, and productivity to the students

A successful match is also beneficial to the employer and the intern. An internship can build students' skills, allow them to explore careers, and provide them with career placement opportunities.

Internship Supervisors have a duty to train interns in professional behavior. Professional communication is a top priority for supervisors to hone their interns. Derogatory speech, racist language, etc. must be eradicated before entering the work place.

Comment on Michael Mitchell's post

I believe the most important aspect of the internship process is allowing the student to have opportunities to show their skill and assist them in developing both professionally and personally to be a good canidate for employment.

It's important that students get to work on real assignments that are related to their interests. An internship should be between 10-12 weeks long at least to give students an opportunity to immerse in their internship experience.

I have learned that while in internship students can see how it feels to work with that company and if that is a right fit in the company.

From this module, I've learned that providing meaningful internship experiences is important for students' career readiness. As a teacher, I can apply this by guiding students in setting clear internship goals, helping them find internships aligned with their interests and skills, and preparing them to actively engage in professional environments.

Internships offer the best opportunity for students to learn real life work experiences and a greater understanding to what is required from the workforce.

I want to better identify my expectations, perhaps in a letter to all on-site supervisors.

I spent more than 20 years assigning and supervising Nurse Interns. I find the program is win-win for student, precptor, and organization. The student learns the accountability required to be a professional, Learns first hand the imporatnace of integrating knowledge, skills, and values in the clinical setting. The preceptor enjoys "showing off" their knowledge, value of team work, and appreciation of belonging to an organization  The Internship programs can also be an opportunity for management to train and evaluate prospects for permanent employment.

The ideal internship is at least 10-12 weeks long so that kids can become a part of the work-place culture.

Internships are great way to increase job skills as long as the are relevant to the students chosen career path.

Internships offer the student and "employer" an opportunity to try before they hire. Often students are offered positions from a successful internship- I know I was.

Acquiring skills related to professionalism is always a plus for your career and in life.

Internships allow students to develop their professional behaviors and get to know a companies culture. For the company, internships give decision makers an opportunity to experience a student's skills and behaviors for the purposes of potential job offers or to see if someone will fit into a team.
