Tips on giving feedback as opposed to simply criticizing

Based on what I’m learning, when I give constructive feedback to others, I am – or should be: Reinforcing or encouraging a more effective way, redirecting a behavior or pointing out a more productive way, ensuring appropriate standards are set , and / or helping the recipient prepare for better performance. (These are from my notes.) With that in mind, how can I be sure that I’m not just giving someone my advice or personal opinion especially when ‘providing feedback’ to co-workers. I know ‘timing is everything’ but I’m interested to hear personal experience or tips on this. I’ve come to realize one of my ‘faults’ is I give too much unsolicited advice and that is one of the reasons I’ve chosen this course – to learn/improve.)

I struggle with trying to include 'too much' in many of my presentations and need to whittle down to the essence

I struggle with trying to include 'too much' in many of my presentations and need to whittle down to the essence.  I assume it is in an effort to impress the audience or to demonstrate that I have a thorough understanding of the topic.  I know this is a crutch, but still I struggle with this.  Perhaps this is in part due to my learning style with is a bit unorthodox, but it seems I violate many of the principles taught in ML 117 - and I know these are valid.  I see other instructors do quite well and in my mind I say I will emulate them, but when my time comes, I seem to always try to 'pack more in' (the same goes with my visuals).  If anyone else 'suffers' with this, I'm all ears!   Thank you in advance for sharing ideas.  ML 117 was a very good tutorial.

Providing a good presentation to the correct audience

Presentation can be powerful if open the right way to the correct audience.  I have had to opportunity to  gain by audience attention and hold it for 25 minutes.  I use to hate speaking and now I love to take the audience to another place and have a discussion with them  with new ideas.

A need for more coaching instead of mentoring

After completing this training, I have realized that as Managers, it is very necessary to do more informal and formal coaching. Many times we try to provide mentoring strategies but neglect following all of the necessary steps to establish a formal coaching plan and to do the necessary follow-up. Instead, people are evaluated poorly and then put on an improvement plan. This only creates a bad experience and many employees lose interest and motivation.  Anyone share the same opionion?

Sell it to the students

Often I find something does not go as planned in the classroom. When it does and the students feel frustrated. I try and find a way to help turn the situation around and create it into a learning experirence. It's how you spind it to help the student see what work around would be implimented and how or what they could have done in that situation to remedy it.

feed back

in  feed back really need preparation and collect all the facts before give somebody a feed back

I try to provide feedback to students on moodle, but it is difficult when we have 3 classes of 20 students and 6

assignments a week.  I will do my best to do better in Canvas which, I believe, gives you the ability to highlight errors on the student's submissions.

Very good topic. I have learned a lot of key(s) in order to be sucessful on my work presentations.

Are students getting enough feed back ?

In the push for better student achievement, standardized test scores have taken on increased significance. Yet these summative assessments, much like the traditional letter grades that schools have assigned for decades, represent judgments that are delivered long after student performance. Young people receiving only these types of assessments lack the specific, actionable and timely teacher observations—otherwise known as feedback—that will help them improve their response to learning tasks.
