On-Line Instruction

I think nursing is an art and a science that must be measured by human interaction. This can be challenging in an on-line only format.

Anatomy & Physiology online

What are the strong and the weak points in Anatomy & Physiology courses delivered online?

Online Learning

In the online learning community we must rely on all resources available to instructors and students to make it an engaging enviornment. Without using all of the resources we could potentially lose a lot of students because we are not keeping them engaged in an active learning enviornment.

blogs

I think blogs and podcasts are  a great new technology.

Multiple Opportunities for a student to understand questions in an online forum

One of the things I like about online instruction is giving the student multiple opportunities to understand my questions.  Many times I find my students will have great answers to questions I have not asked.  I like being able to explain to the student exactily what the question requires.  I face this issue in my management of employees and I think it's an important job skill that online learning teaches more efficiently than classroon instruction.  The student is not embarrassed when I redirect a question to them.

Online eLearning

Sorry to walk in late in the discussion

I am here to say that Online learning and teaching is here to stay.  Every one is going online.  Onsite learning do not have the capacity or infrastructure to handle the new learning styles.  I would like to be ahead of the curve rather than behind.

We have many advantages to online learning.  We are trying to be efficient and going fast.  Going to traditional school and attending face to face laecture is not cutting it anymore.  We simply do not have that kind of bulk time.

great topic

I totaly agree with this topic. E-learning is diiferent than regualr teaching method. It takes more knowledge , training and experince.

Positive Reinforcement

What are other effective (and creative) ways to reward and encourage active engagement and participation to avoid the impression of excessive singling out of ndividual students?

Great module

Hello,

This course reminded me of the importance of my influence as an online instructor in my course. It is very important to project my authority and presence from a distance for my online students.  As I was completing this training, I realized that I always have these four different types of learners in my course. This training taught me how to deal with my noisy learners by sending them an email personally to advise them to remain on the existing thread. For my quiet learner, I can ask them a direct question to have them share their ideas or thoughts. Another topic I learned was to entice the learners to interact with each other by responding to groups of related responses and encouraging them to comment on a selected learner’s response.

Great module!  Good reminders and new information about technology in the online setting.

Computer knowledge

Do you feel that it is important that students have prior computer knowledge before taking online classes.

Course

I enjoyed this course.  I feel that online courses can be very effective but I also believe that the instructor is the most important in making the course effective.   An online instructor must learn to balance many duties and be present within the course.

Staying on top of your time management as an Instructor !

Most of us who serve in an online capacity for our respective colleges and universities, still balance our own personal lives and other employment commitments. We as educators must find a way to balance grading, interaction with students, and motivating our students to become successful in our classes. We tend to focus on what our students must do but seldom do we discuss amongst ourselves the challenges that come along with our roles. We must find the organizational skill sets and time management techniques that work best for us. But at the end of the day, we still must balance being "Mommy" and "Daddy" while maintaining our roles as instructors.

Good organization is imperative

Over the years I have found that organizing course materials, student materials, course feedback, and To-Do schedules are key for preparing and delivering effective classes.

Getting to know your students

It is important to learn something about your students from the onset of the course and make mental notes.  Also, asking students what might hinder them from completing the course. The more you learn with help the instructor continue their learning goals.

What is motivation to lazy students?

I find the more interaction with the student the more motivated they are to attend class and participate.

What are your thoughts?
