Discipline

I agree that administration has to be actively involved in school wide discipline.

What stresses you out

Too many deadlines with not enough time

Who is in control of your stress?

Ask yourself, "Am I in control of this stressful situation?" You can be!! It is important to be able to identify the cause of each stressful situation so you know how to effectively lower your stress. I believe it is important to take care of yourself first, whether it be making time for rest and relaxation or "digging in" to complete the task that may be causing you stress. When one feels that stress is controling him/her, it can/will definitely make a negative impact on your emotions, your thoughts and even your health. Plan ahead and be prepared to get in control of things that might be causing stress in your life BEFORE it happens.

Play Games

In my medical Terminology class, I break down the class into 3 groups, we've played where I ask a question and then they have to agree on it as a team and write it on the board, spelling counts. Also broke my class into 2 groups and played "Family Feud" in Medical terminology which both have worked out

Starting out as a new instructor

As a new instructor you need to go in and be confident, and don't get rattled when things don't go the way you think they should or the students are testing you.

Stress!

Physical organization and Mental organization go hand in hand!

iPhone app for a to do list

I found an app for the iPhone (and probably Android) that turns your to do list into a game. It is called EpicWin. Your to do list becomes Quests, which give you experience. If you do enough, you level up. They also increase your attributes, such as Strength, Intelligence, etc, depending on what you labeled the task as. Recurring tasks remind you, such as paying bills. If you are a video gamer such as myself, and you always have a smart phone on you, an app such as this could be very beneficial to you. I have increased my productivity dramatically, since my main problem has historically been forgetting to do important things.

Making course requirements clear for students.

I have the students read the syllabus out loud, each taking turns. This helps the students to participate , force and follow instructions. This clearly covers the purpose of the course and all expectations required to pass the course. Including, homework due, test dates, what to do if absent on a test date. When I am available for tutoring, if needed. And last but most important you care about their success in the class.

Main Importance of prioritizing

The most important reason to prioritize is to not forget tasks as well as utilizing you time.

Get Ride Of Stress

One helpful way to eleviate some stress is to write things down. Make a list, number your list according to importance and check tasks off as you go.

What stress you out?

Work, home, traffic, customer service? Take five deep breaths, calm down and reapproach whatever situation is at hand.

Reduce your stress Level

In all efforts to reduce your stress level in todays work world one of the things that is benifical is to BE PREPAIRED as much as you can in task you are trying to accomplish.

Different styles, the same objective

While it is essential that we instructors must be able to adapt to different styles, we must stick to one objective--quality education for students. Styles must be based on this common goal and not to make our jobs easy. If we don't have a consistent goal, it is going to be a disaster because students compare instructors, and the good ones are always the bad ones for those whose priority is something else.

How to manage the negative student(s)

How do one go about dealing with young adult students that are negative about everything presented in the classroom? At first I thought that she was just some young kid fresh out of high school, that was used to having a silver platter. She is a whiner about everything, but she has a friend that is really smart who tries to do everything possible to ensure that she passes all of her course work. (By the way, she is much younger than her classmate that is so negative). This concerns me because negativity travels, and has influence which causes choas in the class. What is the best way to handle her and/or any others that may come my way?

Maintaining a family as a career instructor

A career school instructor actually has more flexibilty to get things done it's just planning your day

Stress

One way to reduce stress is never put off what can be done today until tomorrow. If you have an extra 15 minutes to make copies for the next days class take advantage you never know what can come up

A Instructor

An instructor needs to complete all of their tasks to maintain a balance of controling their class room grading assignmments and enjoying their students

syllabus

I think it is very important to read with student the content of syllabus. It is very good start, and at the same time it gives students clear picture about their assignments and grading policies and what chapters to be read and if there is any project involve and deadline of the projects.

new instructor and first day of class

I still remember my first day teaching experience it was really very stressful, all i was thinking how my teaching going to leave impression on my students.

Angry students

Angry students are very unpredictable, you don't know what they are angry for and sometime angry student don't like to share their problems either. It is very scary these days to deal with such students.
